CDL Practice Knowledge Test 2024

Here’s a YouTube video for the DMV CDL “Knowledge Test” that will help you study. Keep in mind there is still an “Air Brake” test. If you want to add endorsements to your CDL, these will include a hazmat, tankers, doubles & triples endorsement which are all separate tests. There are a total of 5 written tests if you want to be fully loaded which I highly recommend if you want top pay. 📝

Any questions feel free to drop a comment! ⤵️

Steps to get a CDL

For anyone that wants to get a Commercial Driver’s License, here are the exact steps I took to get my Class A. 🪪

The first thing you need to do is study for the CDL. Download the DMV study guide from their website. I also recommend downloading the CDL prep app. It’s free and has the same questions as the DMV test. When you are ready to take the air brake and knowledge test, make a DMV appointment. Before your appointment you’ll need a DOT physical from an urgent care. Not all urgent cares offer DOT physicals, so call and find out which one do. They are generally $100 for a medical certificate. When your DMV appointment arrives, take your birth certificate, ID, medical certificate, and two utility bills that prove you live at your residence. ✅

After passing your test you’ll receive a Class A permit and you can either pay $3,000 to enroll in trucking school which is 27 courses 1 hour each course, or you can apply for a trucking company that will provide paid training. Takes around 2-4 months to get your CDL from start to finish depending on the pace you set for yourself. Any other questions feel free to ask. ✅

Keep on trucking! 🚛⛽️

In the U.S., women make up about 10% of the trucking workforce, a figure that has been steadily increasing over recent years as the industry works to attract more female drivers. Despite this progress, women in trucking still face unique challenges related to safety, inclusion, and work-life balance.

“With women still being a minority in the trucking industry, what kind of resources or support do you think would make the career more appealing and accessible for women drivers?”

Overtime pay for truck drivers

Does your employer pay you overtime? 💰

My company pays their employees overtime after 40 hours. My last employer paid overtime after 8 hours, but it was union. I’m in Los Angeles, so trucking companies tend to pay overtime to attract drivers for long-term employment. 🚛

What are your thoughts on this matter because OTR drivers technically cannot receive overtime pay because they get paid per mile or by load? 🤔

Keep on trucking! 🚛 ⛽️
