Pre-Trip Inspection

It’s very important that you conduct a pre and post trip inspection before and after your shift. This is not only a safety concern, it’s a DOT regulation. I see truck drivers break down all the time and that’s mainly because they aren’t doing their inspections.

If you’re considering getting your CDL, I highly recommend to watch these videos because they will ask you at the DMV to conduct an inspection. The DMV will ask you for a really detailed inspection which a trucking school will train you to do.

Should a new driver get a Hazmat endorsement?

In this video the trainer says you shouldn’t get a Hazmat endorsement if you’re a new driver. I disagree and from my own personal experience, I was hauling Hazmat out of the ports two months after getting my CDL. I also got a $4 raise just for having a Hazmat endorsement.

I recommend just getting all your endorsements so you can be more flexible and valuable. Remember there is a huge shortage of truck drivers out there and many don’t like the endorsements because it comes with more responsibilities. Just get your endorsements after you get your CDL. And when you’re ready take the Hazmat test first because it’s the most difficult. ☣️ 🚛

Any questions feel free to reach out and I can tell you the steps I took to make more money with very little driving experience.

How to get your Class A

From my own personal experience on getting my Class A, if you follow these exact steps you’ll prevent any delays on getting your CDL. I recommend only taking your “Knowledge Test” and “Air Brake Test”. Take the endorsements after you get your CDL to avoid information overload. 🤯

The first thing you need to do is study for the CDL. Download the DMV study guide from their website. I also recommend downloading the CDL prep app. It’s free and has the same questions as the DMV test. When you are ready to take the air brake and knowledge test, make a DMV appointment. Before your appointment you’ll need a DOT physical from an urgent care. Not all urgent cares offer DOT physicals, so call and find out which one does. They are generally $100 for a medical certificate. When your DMV appointment arrives, take your birth certificate, ID, medical certificate, and two utility bills that prove you live at your residence. ✅

After passing your test you’ll receive a Class A permit and you can either pay $3,000 to enroll in trucking school which is 27 courses 1 hour each course, or you can apply for a trucking company that will provide paid training. Takes around 2-4 months to get your CDL from start to finish depending on the pace you set for yourself. Any other questions feel free to ask. 🚛

There are 50 questions for the Hazmat endorsement test. This is the California test, but you can YouTube your state.

(FN) Speaking from experience, I highly recommend taking the endorsement tests after you get your CDL. Take your Hazmat first. Than schedule another appointment and take your Tankers, Doubles & Triples together. You’ll use your Hazmat before anything and there’s a lot of information to learn.

Working Inside the Ports

Here’s a little POV of this morning entering the ports in Long Beach California. If you live near a port, I highly recommend finding a carrier that hauls imports and exports out of the ports. This is an ideal job for anyone wanting to make 90k-110k annually. I work a normal Monday-Friday schedule with my start time at 5:00AM. I generally work 40-50 hours a week leaving me with an amazing work-life balance. If you have a family this is the job for you.

This is a no touch freight position, meaning you don’t have to hassle counting and unloading whatever is inside the containers. My day is spent just waiting around from 1-6 hours to complete a transaction. Sometimes transactions are really quick, sometimes they are long so it’s good to have reading material or any other sources of material that will keep you entertained. Since I’m in a transition to Real Estate investing, I personally work on calling property owners that want to sell their home. So if you have another business you want to grow, working inside the ports will allow you to do just that. If you are considering working the ports you will need a TWIC card which costs around $140. Your TWIC card is valid for 5 years. If you a felony conviction that’s older than 7 years you can still get a TWIC card as long as it’s not for espionage or murder. You must also be a U.S. citizen to get approved for a TWIC card. If you have any questions in regards to the ports feel free to reach and follow me.

Who is the better driver men or women?

I was reading this article that says that women are better, safer truck drivers than men. Yeah there are less of us to go on but I agree. My cousins all truck and they have been in like 2 or 3 accidents, me, none my whole life. ZERO. That whole women can't drive thing is a bunch of crap.I have been told that to my face a few times before. Do you think that's fair? https://www.businessinsider.com/women-truck-drivers-better-safer-trucker-shortage-2018-12
