What does a recruiter do?
For the past few months I have been applying for openings thru recruiting agencies or staffing agencies since I believe they will give some more exposure to jobs than just doing my search online or thru the ads.
At this point I am starting to feel discouraged (yes, maybe a little disappointed too) and beginning to lose faith and/or confidence in contacting a recruiter. There has been no actual response from them and the few that give me a call or reply via email do not give me feedback after a couple of weeks.
One told me that I was "overqualified" but I don't think it was the right "answer" since I explained that I didn't feel "overqualified" since I was not familiar with the industry but that shouldn't stop me from doing the tasks required since my other qualifications and skills would make me a quick study to know the ins and outs and also (imho) my skills will make me do a good-to-better job than other candidates.
Again, and maybe at this point I am feeling biased, I am wondering what a recruiter is expected to do? or how do they "work"?
If I was a recruiter, I think I should give feedback to a candidate, and more than anything try to have a meeting with a candidate to see their options and what he/she is looking for. And that means also keep in touch with candidates until they express no (more and/or frequent) contact is needed

Dazed and Amused, not to mention confused!!
The meandering path of navigating this job market continues. Two weeks ago, I receive a phone call from a recruiter saying a job which matches my qualifications and experience has come up. They describe the job to me and say there is a determined $$ per hour rate. I say I am ok with the compensation being offered and to go ahead and submit my resume. Jump to three days or so later, I get called by the recruiter and am told I have an interview with the company... YIPPEE!! I went in, did the interview. It was very conversational, pleasant, the manager I would be working for was very personable, we shared information on various forms of communication etc., I answered the 20 questions, asked her some questions etc. I left there with a good feeling about the job, and upon my return home, wrote a thank-you note and sent to the recruiter to forward to the interviewing manager. Two weeks pass and I hear nothing. I reach out to the recruiter only to be told the company went with a candidate with a lower rate! How the h*** is that possible? Salary never came up as a part of the interview, other than the interviewer asking me if I was ok with what they were offering. Was I supposed to say, "oh no that is way too much and I would be quite happy to do it for half that amount!"? UGH. Needless to say, the frustration continues. Sorry for the long rant.

How often you guys getting calls from recruiters obviously chewing bubble gum while talking on the phone: "Hey, is Michael there?"

Professional recruiter seeking local opportunity
I recently sold my successful recruiting and staffing firm and have no restrictions as a result about working in the capacity of recruiter. I am ready to do what I do best, find talent most cannot. I am also happy to commute but must remain in the Florida panhandle (Walton/Okaloosa County)

Why is it that recruiters talk so fast during a phone screening?
I recently did a phone screening with a recruiter. She sent me a list of questions to answer prior to our phone screening. Yet, when we spoke it did not seem as is she had even read my answers. She asked questions, but she spoke so quickly, over what seemed to be a cell phone that I at at times had to ask for clarification..or to repeat the answer. This is a at times a difficult time and stressful time for us on the other end of the phone line.. What can you suggest to improve this process to others?

Frustration x 100000000
Random question for anyone here... has anyone had success with recruiters? Specifically finding recruiters to work with and then landing a job via a recruiter? I seem to be running into trouble finding a good recruiter. I am in the marketing field with specific interest in writing -- so business communications, copy writing, copy editing etc. Any leads anyone?
