Unloader Loader at Goodwill

Goodwill normally pays minimum wage although I have seen positions for 16/hr, this is what I had signed up for but my pay only ever showed minimum wage even talking to management and hr with proof of being told I would make 16.

I know it isn't possible because of donations but yeah, some kind of layaway plan would be awesome, but then you have hoarders and whatnot that... well yeah it's already cheap enough, but just being a Goodwill ex employee of 13 years service the modo is a hand up and not a hand out. We help those who want to help themselves. There are vouchers from local churches if there is the situation you need to just get on your feet at the lowest low, but yes you atleaste need to do a little work of some kind be it paper or running here and there... like let us know if you are really needing help and not just a free hand out, if that makes any sense...I honestly worked for Goodwill for 7 months through a staffing agency before I was able to get hired on because there just wasn't any openings and I wasn't good with interviews but I was determined to stick with it, showing Goodwill I really needed this job! They had to see that I was there on time, when I was scheduled and that I really needed the job! My work ethnics were superb and I finally got my break-through! After that I gave them 13 good years of service; 14 if you count the 7 month wait for employment.... The pay isn't extrodinary, medical insurance isn't really affordable, but "listen", after being a full time employee for a year you "DO" get 3 weeks vacation time. Also as long as you plan ahead and let them know as soon as you find out on most basis, goodwill, will work with you on dr.'s appointments or whatever else you may have going on that you may need to take time off for.. The schedules are flexible! You DO get Christmas Day off, Thanksgiving Day, and one other day off, you'd think I would know by now but yeah, you are entitled to 3 holiday's yearly.. we get a Christmas bonus, sometimes higher than other times ranging from $50-$500.00, depends There's just so much more. You get a 20% employee discount at Goodwill as long as it's not your store you work at. On your anniversary you also get a little $50.00 off certificate, then your birthday Goodwill recongnizes you with that as well so your little pay does make up for alot of it as well in the long run. Most of it is easy work, although like any job in most cases want you productive so don't employe here if all you want to do is slack off, stand behind the counter, or walk around carrying on long conversations with customers who just want to chit chat... At goodwill you get to cross train, so just because per say you were hired on as a floor associate, that doesn't mean that will be your stability... yes that's your primary job, but say for instance jane doesn't show that day, well Goodwill trains you to fill in the gaps... you may need to play cashier for that day or the shoe department or whatever have you but once that person comes back or until someone is hired for that position then you will be stuck there until that time if needed and trained in that area... again, nothing is hard, but they prep you over time in all departments. We are a team player at Goodwill. This allows you to advace and grow, and preps you for more experience so that you can better yourself along the way... but yes, if you don't want to work an easy job, not willing to work in other departments, not wanting to be a team-player, you're young and not wanting to apply yourself then I suggest you find employment somewhere else. Goodwill is a great company to work for!
