Most job seekers are asking the wrong question

They ask:

“Am I a good fit for this job?”

I think the better question is:

“Is this job actually worth pursuing?”

The job market has changed. Hiring managers are being far more selective, and applying to every role you might qualify for isn’t an effective strategy anymore. Every application takes time, and every hour spent chasing a long-shot opportunity is an hour you could have invested in a role where you have a genuine advantage.

That’s what led me to rethink the tool I’ve been building during my own job search.

This week I moved beyond simple resume matching and turned it into more of a career strategy platform.

Now it helps answer questions like:

• Where does my experience naturally make me competitive? • Which roles should I stop chasing? • How would a hiring manager actually view my background? • How should I position myself for this specific opportunity? • What should my resume emphasize—and what should it downplay?

It also completely rewrites the resume for each target role while preserving your actual experience (no fabricated jobs or inflated accomplishments), critiques it like a recruiter would, and helps you understand why you’re a strong—or weak—fit before you spend time applying.

I’m still improving it every week because I’m using it myself in my own job search.

I’m curious:

If you could have one AI tool help you with a single part of your job search, what would it be?

I’d genuinely love to hear where people are struggling most.

What's the biggest challenge of a part-time job?

My age. Clearly didn’t expect to be discriminated against for my age or my size! I’m small, but I work like a warhorse!

What do I do if I feel I was wrongfully terminated?

I was terminated from a company for getting arrested for something 20 years ago in a different state. When that state seen i was arrested they immediately set the paperwork for my release. I was fired for this. I did nothing wrong and had no new charges.

When filling out your application make sure to have an open availability to work anytime. Do not put that you can not work certain times or days bc it will most likely get you looked over. Also select on all positions so that you do not limit yourself on where your application will appear. For I stance if they are hiring a cashier for sporting goods but you have only selected cashier then you will not show up bc you didn't have sporting goods selected. Click on everything!!

Onboarding failure

I finally got a new job after 6 months of hunting. Right when I'm about to start, HR informed me about the sudden hiring freeze due to recent tariff increase. Anyone seeing something similar? I'm at a loss of not knowing what is a safe direction/industry to transition to...

It depends on what level of job you are looking for. Entry level warehouse employees can get apply and start within a couple weeks. All you would need is to complete an application, submit for a background check, and do a drug test. No interview needed. If you are looking for something higher level Operations side or Corporate level, you would need a competitive resume, a completed assessment test (sort of a cultural fit test), and a interview or two. Or three. That process could take much longer. It maybe be a month or two before your application is review and acted on.
