Luckily, I now have a job where I don't have to work on Thanksgiving 🦃, but I used to work holidays back in my cashier days. I did get OT though 💵!

Would you get your degree if it was free?
My prior employer paid for me to get an associates degree and for most of my bachelor's degree. It was a hard and long fought journey, but I did it. But just because it's free, would you do it?

Target took advantage of you. If you reported them. They would cut your hours, and they wouldn't give you any overtime.
