Great local hospital

Halifax is a stand alone public hospital unaffiliated with the greedy corporate chains. Unlike the corporate for profit hospitals, Halifax cares for those who are unable to pay. Halifax is also the ONLY Baker Act receiving facility in this service area. Halifax Hospital continues to earn the trust of the people it serves.

The question of diversity as an interview question?

Had a zoom interview where out of 5 interviewers, only one was visible besides myself. Each asked different work related questions, which is customary. Then came the question,,, "Tell us an example where you have encountered diversity in the work place". Well I froze. This type of question, in my mind was dangerous. Were they testing my wokeness? Were they inquiring of my acceptance of LGBTQ, or my feelings pertaining to people who identify as other than male or female? IN retrospect, I should have asked them, one of them to phrase the question differently. I should have asked. "In what capacity do you mean? Are we speaking to collaborations with different vendors? Different business groups within this company I would be communicating on a daily basis? Did they mean working with cross functional teams?" Or were they testing me to feel out my beliefs or prejudices? I opted for defining my experience with peers, co-workers and cross functional teams as they relate to my business practices of I am a customer to the design engineering group and my customers are the tooling, IE, quality and eventually the shop floor. How does one with many years of experience, focused on just doing business to the best of their ability and following company guidelines, understand what this new interview question is supposed to mean?

Are you a Jobcaser of the Week ($100 award)? If not, maybe next week?

It can pay to help people in the Jobcase Community! Five Jobcasers are selected as the Jobcasers of the Week, and they are awarded $100 for:

  • 1 - Providing helpful answers to questions by fellow Jobcasers
  • 2 - Having a fully filled out profile, including a profile picture

Here are the Jobcasers of the Week!

Beth Fiedler - Connect with Beth

Beth replied to a question about what it takes to become a Front Desk Receptionist?

  • “You have to have a service heart and mindset, make people feel welcome and have great listening-to-action skills. A receptionist will often give the first impression of a company on the phone and in person. Manners count.”

Allison Gaeger - Connect with Allison Allison

Allison replied to a question about what skills to put on a resume to qualify for a Sales Associate job?

  • “Good people skills, outgoing, friendly, approachable, good listener, empathetic, energetic, if you are good at multitasking, and state if you like working with the public. Just some ideas off the top of my head. Hope it helps.”

Diana Macy - Connect with Diana

Diana replied to a question about the biggest challenge about working for Dollar Tree?

  • “The most challenging part depends on your position. Store manager?? Very few hours based on sales and inventory results. Need a highly efficient staff to keep a solid looking/performing store. As a cashier? Probably getting decent hours and the ability to multitask at all times based on lack of staff.”

Charles Alvarado - Connect with Charles

Charles replied to a question about how to advance your career as a Supervisor?

  • “You have to look at what motivates you. Do a values assessment on yourself. Sometimes the job is what you make it. If money is what drives you as an example… not the ins and outs of your bonus structure, maybe there is a skill or course that may take little to no time that the company pays an employee extra for.”

Bill Northcutt - Connect with Bill

Bill replied with a question about what you should know before applying to a Driver job?

  • “Is this your first driving job? You will have to be drug-free, Usually no more than 2 or 3 at the most minor driving violations. Usually no criminal charges, Job history back to 10 years. Be able to speak English and be able to read the English language. You have to be able to pass the DOT Physical. Take a driving road test with the company rep. Must have a Class A or B depending on the type of truck you are driving…”

Congratulations to this week’s Jobcasers of the Week!

Unfair wage dispute for W2 employees losing all base pay and forcing to go 100% commission

My current company is removing ALL base pay for 100% of its sales reps, but we are W2. Based on my research, this is not legal unless our commission is at least minimum wage, in which case we would be owed minimum wage for the work period.

Can anyone shed some light on this? The company is based out of California but I live in Ohio. #wagelaw #wagedispute
