"Job Description Buzzword"

"Self-Starter Needed" = Zero Training Provided.

Self-starter is code for “We won’t train you, we won’t support you, and you’re on your own.” It’s a dead giveaway that this company has zero structure and expects you to figure it all out yourself – without paying you fairly.

Just making you aware. Proceed Cautiously! #AWU #disability #jobs

"Job Search"

The Importance of Entry-Level Jobs in the Age of AI

• Contrary to the narrative that entry-level jobs are disappearing due to AI, the author argues this is inaccurate and self-serving for companies promoting automation tools.

• Entry-level workers are crucial for building talent pipelines, offering cost-effectiveness, adaptability to new technologies like AI, and bringing fresh perspectives that challenge existing assumptions.

• Young employees often possess a strong understanding of new technologies and can help companies implement AI more efficiently, as evidenced by a bank's senior bankers learning from their junior colleagues.

• While some entry-level programs were cut during economic downturns, most companies value these roles for their contribution to long-term growth and organizational performance.

• The author encourages employers not to overlook young workers, emphasizing the importance of multi-generational workforces for innovation and growth, and advises job seekers to view entry-level positions as valuable learning experiences that can shape their future careers.

Keep positive, and keep applying! #AWU #disability #jobs

"Job Search"

It is Frustrating!

First, it's important to remember you're not alone.

Businesses are hiring at one of the slowest paces in the last 10 years, according to the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. That could be as a result of uncertainty around policy like tariffs, for example, or because employers are experimenting with new tech like AI to see if it can take over some of their roles.

Recruiters are so inundated with applications, it's incredibly difficult to get to them all.

Given the external obstacles, remember that if you're not hearing back from prospective employers, "it's not a reflection on you. The system is overloaded. Companies are receiving hundreds of applications for each of their jobs. It is overwhelming.

You are not alone! Stay strong! Remember, you may get 100 rejections but you only need 1 to say yes. #AWU #disability #jobs

"Interview Tip"

Resist the Urge!

If you glance at your watch or phone during an interview, even subtly, it signals that you’re not fully engaged or that you’re rushing through the process.

This shows lack of focus, lack of respect, and makes you memorable in a bad way.

What you can do: Keep your watch and phone out of sight during the interview to avoid temptations. Focus entirely on the interviewer and the conversation. This is your time to shine. #AWU #disability #jobs #interviewtips

"Job Search Tip"

Dealing with Rejection

Rejection during a job search can hit hard—but it doesn’t define your worth.

Each “no” brings you closer to the right “yes.” Every unanswered application, every interview that didn’t go your way—it’s all part of the process.

Remember:

You are more than a resume.

Rejection is redirection.

The right opportunity will align with the right time.

Keep showing up. Keep learning. Keep going. Your next chapter might be one application away.
