Advocating with the Senator!
My favorite days are when I meet jobcasers. My second favorite are when I am out there advocating for them. Today is one of those days but what made it even more special was doing so with Senator Joe Manchin. Jobcase Team likes politicians and public servants who care about people and can get stuff done for them. Senator Manchin is one such public servant.
He asked us to put together www.DiscoverWVjobs.com. We’ll keep making it better, but drop me a line if you have any suggestions
Cheers! #StrongerTogether #WestVirginia

I'm enjoying this community!
I like how everyone on Jobcase is supportive of each other and offers great advice. I'm looking forward to more positive support on here!

What’s your side hustle??
Did you know some HUGE companies started out as someone’s side hustle? Check out some in the article below.
Wondering what side hustles Jobcasers might have that could be the next big thing. Please share below, would love to learn about them! #sidehustle #gig #nextbigthing https://amp-businessinsider-com.cdn.ampproject.org/c/s/amp.businessinsider.com/companies-started-as-side-hustles-2019-8

Help us help those impacted!
Hi, If you found this convo then you know @JobcaseTeam is working with UHG, Kohls and Whole Foods to help soften the landing for those that getting laid off by Lowes (story below). We are going to try and identify and help those directly impacted but we need your help too! Here's how you can help:
- if you know people directly impacted - refer them to this group on Jobcase: https://www.jobcase.com/groups/78782f7a-b601-4453-ae30-a3ed34b733e6 - (and yup, we know we have to get the naming conventions cleaned up - working on it...) 2)If you have advice or opportunities for those getting laid off - please share in this group!
Thanks - we are #StrongerTogether and this is one of many ways that Jobcasers can help one another.

Protecting your loved ones

Protecting your loved ones
I am gutted by news from El Paso and Dayton. Yes, I am praying, but we all know that is hardly enough. While we think of how to stop these it is sadly critically important to be ready for them. Reaction seconds are precious. Here is a good government link to help you understand what to do if, God forbid, you find yourself in such a horrific situation.. I suggest you read it and discuss with your loved ones.
This beautiful world can be so sad sometimes. Let’s see, focus and celebrate the beauty but let’s be prepared for those moments when beauty is eclipsed #Safety #drills https://www.ready.gov/active-shooter

Don’t let ageism take wind out of your sails!
“You are really old for your job”
That’s what I was told yesterday by someone who then said “have you thought of getting someone younger in that role and you doing another role”?
It went on. And on.
When I pointed out that considering age as a fulcrum of decision-making was something I never do- there was a hasty retreat in the conversation (to be generous, ‘clarification’) it changed to “I didn’t mean that. I mean.have you thought really hard about whether you want to do this, etc, etc. “
sigh.
Ok. Why rehash here? Because I know we almost all of us face “isms” in the workplace. Some much worse than others. It doesn’t feel great. It might even be a blocker to certain paths. But in the big scheme of things - It doesn’t need to change you or what you are capable of, or limit what you can achieve - - it’s just noisy headwinds. Sail around it. Sail through it. Sail over it. But don’t let it take the wind out of your sails!! You rock. And they can’t stop you!
There will always be naysayers, daggerthrowers, and doubters in your life.
Fine. Actually, good. Take it as fuel. Prove them wrong. Represent. Walk tall and kick butt!
Jobcasers 1) care about others 2) drive their own work life success and 3) believe workers have as much value as shareholders. I am gonna keep driving that work life success whether people think I’m too old or not. Won’t slow me 5 seconds. It might speed me up.
How about you?? Are you gonna drive right over the “ism” you are facing? I hope so! I know you can . And as a fellow Jobcaser I support you and will strive to have your back! #ageism. #drive #power #StrongerTogether

Why don't adults get "Re-dos"?
So I am heading home and I am wishing I had a re-do on this day. You remember when you were a kid and something went wrong in a game you'd be playing and if there was a friendly older sibling, parent or teacher they'd give you a re-do. I mean, I dont even think I knew how to play pingpong without about a dozen re-dos per game. In Golf, they call it a "mulligan" which sounds so much cooler I suppose.
Sigh. We all should give each other a mulligan one day per quarter. I bet we all need one. Here's what I think instead. When you need a mulligan for not being your best - forgive yourself, move on -but learn from it. Each part is important. Hard to move on if you can't forgive yourself (I've learned that through some fabulous court-involved-assistance groups that help prior felons with job placement). But you need to learn from it too. Otherwise what's the point. We all need to grow and be better tomorrow than we are today - No matter what age we are.
So - I am heading out now. I plan to be better tomorrow. And I plan to remember to give co-workers mulligans when they need it from time to time. And am hoping my coworkers today give me a mulligan too.
Hope you do the same and others do the same for you.... Maybe a bit of patience with one another when we aren't at our best, will help all of us actually be at our best a bit more!
