what do I do ?
I started a job last week and I had the worst week ever. I was so stressed out, I had not worked in two years, and was not used to going to work. I felt like I could not do anything right and was talked to several times about mistakes I made. I am a master barber and have been cutting hair for 30 years. I have my own technique and my way of doing things. They want me to do everything there way, buy all new clippers just like the ones they use. they want everyone to look and do the same as each other. I was finding it hard to change everything that I have done for so many years. My equipment I have is new that i bought and spent over two thousand dollars on and now I have to go replace it all, not sure if i will stay because of this situation but I have to go buy all this equipment before I go back tomorrow and sell mine on craigslist. Feeling down, unable to cut hair even and my self-esteem is at a low. I waited for a job to pop up in my area, it's just 10 minutes away the hours are great, and this type of profession does not have a lot of job openings. What do I do, stick it out or just resign, beyond sad ! #jobsearch #termination #advice #management #interview

Risk it and leave. You must have faith you'll be led to the right place. Don't let anyone steal your joy!

Are you able to start your own business? Work out of your house or rent a booth somewhere you can work independently? I don't think it's ever a good idea to fully change everything you've been doing, including swapping out your tools (unless they're going to cover the cost, of course). If you feel really good about the place, and feel like it's a good fit, then, by all means, do it! But if you're having reservations, you'll feel really terrible if you go through changing everything just to have it not work out.

Advertise a mobile service, check nursing homes, senior citizen buildings, as well. Lots of people would appreciate a mobile barber service.

I certainly don't see that as being fair to you. Be still, be quiet and see what God has to say about that. He will guide you. If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything. Stay strong!!

Yeah keep moving. If you have a vehicle then maybe it’s time to take control. What do you mean you might say, but yes take control. I’m a barber as well. I stop renting and decided to pull up. If you have a client list set appointments. You can drive to them. This will do two awesome things. First you will be in total control of you day. Two it will allow you to change a premium price. You will now be a service provider in the fact that they never have to wait or Lea home. I change $40 dollars a cut. With the tip it’s 45 sometimes even 50! Yeah 50! For at max 1 hour and half. The scale of pay flows with the distance and rising gas prices. Try this last week I did a wedding party made 1200 in two day did 20 cuts plus 300 in tips. That not the best part. I made new contacts. That new money!

You can cut hair anywhere and keep your same equipment unless that's just the company of choice. I don't see a need to be down; if you have skills go where they can be used. #hairstylist

Never quit a job without a new one! We work to earn money, self respect, use our brains & skills.... You will make it just look at some Veterans without legs!!!! Ouch

You make the best of it and look for another opportunity like you did before. You have to take care of yourself and your family and that feeling sorry for yourself ain't gone cut it. Get off your ass, make shit happen and make it happen again how you want it to happen. Sometimes that takes time to do. For now you said you haven't worked in two years sounds like you been rusty and are making excuses so you don't have to work. Get up, put in the work, and get to the money. Everything else can be worked out over time.

My salon closed a month ago. So im working out of my kitchen and going to people's houses. There are no other salons left in this town with openings for part time and only 1 with full time that I can't do anymore. I will either keep working Ike this for a few more years or open a salon in my house. I wish you lived closer to me and I'd open one with you. Otherwise I have a big enough space for another stylist or nail tech. However I have ppms. Plus several other diseases. I'm not even 40 yet. This is the first time since I was a kid that I haven't had a job. I have worked my butt off my whole life I'm been a licensed cosmetologist for 20 yrs and can't find anything close to me. My clients are not going to drive a half hr or more in the winter. Plus my car died in November. The salon I was at I could walk or skate too if I didn't have a ride. Not anymore. Also the fact I can't find a job when I have always been handed jobs my whole life is God's way of telling me to slow down. I just pray my fiance and I can make it while he's in school. Then he will have to take over paying all the bills and I'll do hair here and there and craft for abit of money. Im doing some side jobs like gardening for people and making flower beds and decorating. I love shopping with other people's money. I don't get to keep the stuff. Shopping especially with the internet and being stick in bed alot is great for me. Good luck . God has a plan for you. I truly believe he has a plan for all of us. It's somethings frustrating to know what and why. It always works out though. Also I am left handed I will only use babyliss clippers and trimmers. They are cord less and the half guard is in the middle. I can't use anything with the half guard on the side since that's right where my hand goes and I'll flip it accidentally. So I wouldn't buy anything and say if you don't like what I have see ya. Unless you have beauty school or Walmart clippers then I don't see a problem. Mine are super expensive because most don't have the half guard in the middle. I won't Change my stuff or my punk rock look for any salon sorry. I'm not buying a new clothes and pretend to me someone I'm not. I've always been me and that's y people love me I will not conform to that. I wish you all the best!
Are you renting the seat or working for them? It's a difference between the two. If you are renting the seat you can use your own equipment without difficulty. There will still be some rules to follow but otherwise it's all good. However, if you are working for them the business rules need to be followed and there is no way out of it. This should have been explained to you when joining the business team. I'm sorry you're going through this mess, if I were you I would keep on going as this is a profession many I've spoken to love what they're doing and don't want to give it up. Find a place you can get your own seat. If you know of a local group check in with them and see if there is a local store in your area needing an extra person for their salon. Just a thought but you need to keep moving forward and not stop in the middle of the road just because of one sink hole, you can do this!
