Local Trucker Driver vs. OTR Drivers
Here’s a fun YouTube video comparing Local Truck Driver’s vs. Over The Road Driver’s. As a local truck driver myself, some benefits I experience are consistent schedules, home every night, hourly wages with Overtime, healthy lifestyle, weekends off, no touch freight, and familiarity with my routes. 🚛
The only benefit I see coming from driving Over The Road is a higher salary that comes with a price. Although OTR driver’s get to travel and see different locations, it’s still work and they can only enjoy brief moments of a new city and state. ❌
This is just my opinion and some drivers actually enjoy driving OTR. Some new driver’s are actually subjected to driving OTR to gain experience. I was fortunate to not have to endure that and went directly to the Long Beach ports. 🚢

10 Challenges Truck Drivers Encounter
Getting Lost ❌
Dispatchers ❌
Being Away From Home ❌
Insufficient Pay ❌
Dangerous Deliveries ❌
Complex Pay Statements ❌
Safety Conflicts ❌
Backing Up Situations ❌
Extreme Weather ❌
Difficult Decisions ❌
As a truck driver myself, the challenges I’ve encountered were Dispatchers and Safety Conflicts. When I first started driving my first two months I received low pay. But I quickly got into hauling out the ports which is in high demand so the pay scale is higher. Local vs. OTR drivers have different challenges, but I would say OTR drivers have it pretty bad. I will never recommend driving over the road to anyone. But if you like traveling OTR might be for you. 🚛

Updated Pre-Trip Inspection
Here’s a video of an instructor giving a detailed pre-trip inspection. His instructions are very accurate and must be recited during the DMV test. ✅
For example, you must mention the radiator is full to the top, has no cracks or leaks, and there are no missing nuts, bolts, or screws. Every piece of the truck must be this detailed during the DMV test. ✅
I personally took 2-3 hours of my day and practiced this until I had everything memorized. If you practice this daily, you won’t have a problem during the test. ✅

How to Make Right Hand Turns
Here’s a safety video I felt was important to share for anyone considering a career in trucking. I get other drivers always trying to pass or tailgate me on a daily basis. I’m not sure why anyone would want to put themselves at risk, but they do without any regards to their own safety. 🚫
