Street Sweeper

Here’s a video of a driver giving a demonstration of how a city street sweeper operates. In order to qualify to drive a street sweeper, you’ll need a Class B CDL which generally costs around $1,500 at a trucking school. 🪪

The salary is around $52K annually with some great benefits working for the city. The work schedule is consistent allowing you to come home to your family every night. ✅

If you’re interested in getting a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), I can explain the exact steps on how I got my CDL. 🚛

☢️Radioactive Loads☢️

Here’s a quick video of a truck driver getting interviewed by news reporters on his concern of the radioactive active loads he was hauling. 🚛☢️

The truck driver mentions all the red flags he noticed when he would pick up his loads. One red flag in particular that he mentions is that the workers loading his truck wore their (PPE) radioactive protective suits. In a situation like this, the driver is supposed to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Even if you’re hauling poisonous gases, a driver is supposed to get a gas mask. If you don’t have (PPE) Highway Patrol can cite you and shut down your tractor. When hauling hazardous materials always go by the book. If you don’t know or understand the rules, call the Highway Patrol to find out. 📖

Ready Mixed Driver

Here’s a short video of what it’s like to be a concrete mixer driver. 🚛

If driving an 18 wheeler is a bit to much for you, I highly recommend getting a Class B CDL and become a concrete mixer driver. To get a Class B CDL, it only costs around $1,500 which is half the cost of a Class A CDL. Some companies will even provide paid training. You should keep in mind this type of job can get busy in the summer months and slow down in the winter. There’s not to much concrete pouring when it rains or snows. Salary ranges can be in between $25-$30 an hour depending on experience. ✅

How to Beat Diabetes

The chances of a truck driver getting diabetes is 50% higher than any other profession. Here’s a video of how a truck driver beat diabetes by changing his eating habits and a little bit of exercising. 🏋️‍♀️

As a truck driver myself I try to stay as healthy as possible by exercising everyday for 30 minutes. 🏃‍♂️ My eating habits consist of oatmeal and peanut butter, egg whites, tuna, salads, almonds, cheese sticks, V8 juice, and peanut butter & jelly sandwiches. For dinner I’ll eat a variety of foods, but mostly chicken and vegetables. If you’re considering of pursuing a career as a truck driver, keep in mind that if you get diabetes you can lose your CDL. Don’t fall into that trap of eating fast food and sugary snacks, especially if you’re an OTR driver. 🥗

Yard Goat

Here’s a video of a driver demonstrating the basic functions of a Yard Goat. These tractors typically shuttle trailers to and from dock doors so employees can load and unload them. ✅

In order to operate a yard goat all you need is a Class C and in some cases a Class A CDL. A yard goat position can be difficult to land if you have no experience driving a tractor and trailer. These positions are normally handed to truck drivers that no longer want to drive on the road and want a normal work schedule so they can come home to their family every day. The yard goat position also allows retired truck drivers to maintain an active CDL. ✅

What Kind of Truck Do You Need For The CDL Road Test

Here’s an informative video on what kind of truck you need for a CDL road test. This is a great video to watch because the instructor gets in detail if you decide to take your own truck for the DMV road test. 🚛

If you decide to take your own truck, keep in mind it needs to be over 26,000lbs for it to be considered a CDL test. ✅

If your truck doesn’t have air brakes, it’s fine but you’ll have a restriction on your CDL stating you cannot operate a vehicle with air brakes. ✅

If your truck is automatic, it’s fine you’ll just have a restriction on your CDL that you cannot operate a manual transmission vehicle. ✅

From my own experience as a commercial driver, it’s better to not have any restrictions on your CDL as a contingency plan. Keep in mind if you have a Class A, you can pretty much get a job anywhere in the country making six figures. So it’s better to pay the extra cost to make yourself more flexible and to create more options for yourself in the future. ✅
