Story time. I was driving for a mega carrier (rhymes with Qwift) last January and ended up getting a ticket for going on the parkway and not letting the Staties know. I had to get to my delivery to the next exit and did not learn this until the officer was writing a ticket.. No big deal, the company said they would cover the ticket. Except I had to stop driving OTR for them shortly afterward to take care of a family member, and was out for a good 5 months. Of course, apparently they forgot to pay the ticket since I stopped working for them. I missed the letter letting me know that, but did get one saying that my license was suspended because of that.

I can clear it up easy enough and pay some fees for it, but is this going to affect me getting some local dry van work? I don’t have much experience in anything else but retail and I do NOT want to back to dealing with angry Karens and the like. What do I do? Are local companies not gonna give me a chance?

I signed up with a temporary agency towards the end of June 2019. They claimed they had a job for me starting July 8. This company according to the agency was hiring 3 drivers to replace the courier service they were using to pick up and deliver their products. They also told me a story about how a driver was hired but went to medical leave at the same time. Then the story evolved to the job closed. I got a funny feeling that they were not telling the truth. They sent me on 3 interviews, the first one the hiring manager didnt show up. The other 2 interviews I thought went well but those companies chose other candidates. Finally the temporary agency had a position for me starting July 22. Almost two weeks later, I had to drive 155 miles from home for this position, but I was put up in a hotel for the duration of the assignment. This lasted a week. The first company's website had its driver position open the entire time. I thought something was fishy about the temporary agency and their stories. So I contacted them and had a productive conversation with them. They indicated they were looking for two drivers and they wanted to replace a temporary employee that would not convert to full time with the company. They had seen my resume and were interested. They explained that they had to hire me though the temporary agency, which I understood. I explained that I had an assignment with the temporary agency that would last 1 to 2 weeks. And then our conversation closed pleasantly. When my assignment ended, which only lasted a week, I called the temporary agency asking for another assignment. The first company called me and said to call the temporary agency and have them set up a meet and greet or interview. They said they looked forward to meeting me. So I informed the temporary agency that the position was still open at the first company. They said they'd communicate with them the next day. They did then the temporary agency got back to me and gave me a different story saying in their conversation the first company they said they were not ready to interview BUT they would interview when they were ready. So I'm totally confused as to who is telling the truth or if the temporary agency might be favoring the temporary employee at the first company. Apparently he won't convert to full time because the temporary agency gives him more hours than the company he was assigned to. That is what the hr representative said to me at the first company. I have another possible driver job with a different regular company in the works. So I am torn between who or what job I'm going to take or ifvI should wait anymore for the temporary agency to get their act together Never felt like I was banging my head to get a job. What should I do? Should I report this to the labor department, state attorney general, better business bureau? I guess I run the risk of losing a job either way in some cases.

Do your research before accepting a position. I was recently hired in as a driver Manager for a Transportation company. I interviewed and told them what I could and couldn’t do. I’m on my 4th week and have been talked to daily on the decisions I have made. Even though I attempt to ask questions I can’t get answers as everyone is either on the phone or MIA. Guy that does my job put in his 2 weeks right after I got there. The communication is absolutely terrible in this place. Huge mistake and already am looking to get out.

I had a MD state trooper tell me at 2am last Wednesday that it was illegal for my child to be in the sleeper. I told him that was NOT true at all! I work as a team and my co-driver was sleeping. You have to have one if your kid is under a certain age, usually 5 but depends on the company. He tried to lecture me about being a good mother and I ALMOST lost it right there. My son is VERY well cared for, safe and loved. He ran my license then comes back and tells me to have a good one. No ticket, so I guess he knew he was wrong.

Hi everyone! So, I have seen a couple post pertaining to candidates being hesitant to apply to a job because they might be lacking one small thing the employer was looking for or for example- a company said a valid drivers license is required, but it's a non-driving job. APPLY anyway- you can't score if you don't shoot and all they can do is say no. Realize that most companies post jobs knowing they won't get everything. That is why as recruiters our inside joke is- when in doubt send it out! Let the hiring company decide, not yourself! I'm not saying apply to jobs you are a 50% match but if you are 80% there go for it.

years and years ago I was dropping off a load somewhere in Detroit. This was way before GPS and when we used maps! Ended up driving through what i thought was a shorter way but it was real sketchy. Got stopped by a cop who told me not to stop for anything else until I got to the warehouse. Told me to roll through redlights, california stop at stop signs.. he even said if anyone got in my way to just keep on goin and let them jump out the way. Was really freaking me out honestly. I got to the warehouse just fine with no problems but man that was real scary for a cop to tell me not to stop.

Why is it that most of the jobs want you to have a valid driver's license but alot of them you won't be driving their company cars??? Is this NOT discrimination? Don't we have enough that eliminates us from certain job positions like education level and back ground checks? Whether or not someone has a valid driver's license isn't important for all jobs. Give me a BREAK....

I live in the burbs of Chicago and am seeking employment. Here's the issue, I don't have a car and everything that would be a good for for me is too far away by bus. One position I know I would have been perfect for is 32 minutes away by car, BUT 6 1/2 hours away by bus/train/bus and walking, another position would have me leaving my house at 8:45pm to get there by 7:15am, I mean what the hell, when would I sleep, or even eat!! Please don't suggest uber/lyft I don't have the money for that. I applied to a couple places that ARE within walking distance, won't say where but as soon as the "when did you graduate high school" came up I was out, yes I'm 61 but I'm not useless. I'm just so flipping frustrated!!
