I disliked working for #StateofTexas because...

I wont generalize my experience working for Disability Determination Services with Health and Human Services, to all jobs with the State of Texas. However, with DDS they do not care about their employees one bit. We knew all of us, despite length of service with the organization, were disposable and were treated as such. The job requirements were equal to 10 highly skilled professions, which they continued to add on new job duties, as they closed specialized units. They want everyone doing every single aspect of determining disabilities (which is far more than just making a determination, involved a lot of technical jobs after Determination was made, hence they use to have different units to break down the process some). Yet the pay was more of an entry level corporate job, when the job duties were insane for one person to keep up with and just kept being added to and the stress makes people so sick they become disabled themselves. If for any reason, even a short term disability, causes you to fall behind on your work/caseload, they have no program or way for you to get caught back up. The cases just continue to pile up and they tell you to do more, even if you are on intermittent FMLA (which they push people to take vs full time FMLA) and miss 1-2+ days/wk, they will not help you manage your caseload and tell you, you just need to figure it out and figure out how to do more when you are there. The pay compared to the stress is not worth it!! There is no HR department on campus and things like your FMLA time is calculated, kept track by your unit manager, not HR. So if you sont trust your manager or have any problems with management, there is no one to make complaints to. They give pay raises based on who their friends are, if you're good at brown nosing, not on your actual work and they serve you up to fail, if they dont like you. There is an employee, who by the time I left, was a Director of an entire unit, had several sexual harrassment complaints logged against him, would require detailed information on your doctor appointments, etc and he keeps getting promoted. Furthermore, the corruption stems from unit managers to the Director of DDS, Mary Wolfe. Mary Wolfe is double dipping which is against the law. Also, she used the EEOC to sue the State of Texas many years ago, and won her case. So now she has connections within the EEOC. So if you try using them, for any type of employer misconduct, she is notified immediately and given information to your case that she shouldn't have. DDS under HHS needs to be investigated!!! That's plain and simple!! The work load compared to the pay is absurd and makes people mentally and physically ill to the point they either are forced to resign or get fired and the entire place is so corrupt, they break so many laws that should protect their employees but will never get sued because Mary Wolfe has connections that make all.those cases disappear. If I could accomplish one thing in my life, it would be to get all the corrupt doings at this organization uncovered, have retribution paid to employees who suffered and no longer work there because of such corruption and have it restored to be fair, honest place where job duties and pay matched. I would suggest to anyone considering employment with disabilities in Texas to RUN!! You will save your life from unneccessary stress and save your health. It's a shame too because the actual work was enjoyable.
