I am a young Senior looking for work to occupy time. Have some skills but need to be updated to today's time. What should I do? Willing to either Volunteer or work 20 hrs a week.

I have a long history of work related experiences - pride myself on my amazing abilities to fit in ,work hard ,learn new duties and instructions easy ,I am a person with many know how skills , schooling and on the job training , also created various opportunities for others as well as myself--- I am trying to find a part-time or temp job with the ''US Census .gov'' . I worked the program in 2000 and loved doing it . If ''Jobcase ''can direct me to the correct site or have something special or short term it would be very helpful at this time --I am almost 70 years of age and retired but like to devote my time too special projects and services in the Community \Country ,plus extra monies are always needed even at my age --Thank you .

I am 62 going on 40. Believe it. I have so much enthusiasm that I have to remind myself to draw down a bit. While in an interview I traveled 350 miles for, the discussion of drug test came up, I agreed with it. The interviewer, while looking over at me in a non lit room as I was filing out a mound of paperwork on the corner of her desk with ALL my information included, proceeded to tell of an applicant that didn't pass his drug screen, and was told to do it over in 5 days. After being assured I would be called for training, I traveled 350 miles back home and waited for a call or an email with further information. I got an email alright, through Indeed, not the company, telling me the company was going on with the hiring process, and that my application was not accepted. No explanation. I think I have a right to know, and I think they cheapened themselves by that action, while telling ME why a certain person wasn't getting hired and they don't have the ca-hones to tell me.

I am 60, fit and motivated. I have developed a well-tuned ear for the ways both written and spoken English can influence people respond to new ideas; I understand and can effectively manipulate rhetorical strategies and enjoy writing. For the past 35 years, I have also excelled at encouraging high school students to take pride and ownership in and of their thinking and verbal expression, ultimately pushing them to reach for mastery rather than settle for mediocrity. Observant and artistic, I enjoy hobbies ranging from painting and carving to playing the guitar and violin. Now though I would like to ply my talents in work that is more product oriented, to do rather than teach. I would like to write and edit text for profit. While I have topics and assignments that I am naturally drawn to, my interests are broad and I look forward to exploring new fields. How should I go about marketing myself?

The Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) is a part-time employment program for low-income persons age 55 or over. Program participants work at community and government agencies and are paid the federal or state minimum wage, whichever is higher. They may also receive training and can use their participation as a bridge to other employment positions which are not supported with federal funds.

I hate looking for a job online it is all so impersonal. I have sent out so many applications but because I'm 59 they don't give me a second look. Went on some interviews but no luck. It is my experence that younger people don't have the work ethics older people have. Just because I might be older doesn't mean I can't do the job. I am not ready to retire, I like working, I still have a good 30 years left in me. Why can't employers see that.
