Stressed beyond stressed

It’s been a rough year. I lost my job in March due to new ownership. I lost my mom in May and I lost my apartment in June I’ve been applying for jobs inside and outside my field. I am a Dmv title clerk specialist I have over thirty years of experience and all I can come up is a part time job but it’s a job I’ve been going on plenty of interviews which I feel go well. I have references and I don’t understand why I don’t get hired I am good at what I do. I’m 55 years old and I feel like a has been

I need a full time job I can not make it on a part time salary

Just seems lik the world is against me

Too old! What????

Hi...Im in a deal quandry. I'm 61 yrs young and moved to NC 3 yrs ago to work with the military families. 4 months after arriving, I had an emergency leg amputation. Obviously it took a lot to heal, recover, learn to use my prosthetic leg and get on with life. Well, I've been trying to get hirex since 2018. I know it's the age thing as all the applications ask for yr of HS graduation..omg. They don't even know about my leg. 57 apps later I was called for 4 interviews. 3 didn't hire due to hrs I can't work..I care solely for my disabled teen and can only work while she's in school. The one job with flexible hrs saw my leg and that was a no call back. The teaching jobs all told me I had too much experience and education..what?? I was told to dummy down my resume..I worked hard at my jobs and career in the mental health field and 8 yrs of college but no Masters degree which I need in my field. No employment for 3 yrs so I'm tapped out..all loans are used up, savings, everything gone but Soc Sec and that's a joke... I am completely fed up and tired of trying. My specialty is case manager, counselor or instructor for developmentally delayed plus I was a nurse for 35 yrs. Any job with this type. Of client is over an hour away and local jobs are scarce and military gets first dibs...this is a military town with a Marine base in most of the county. I'm sick as hell over this as I've never had a problem getting a job or paying my bills when I work. At 61 I shouldn't be at such a loss but I am and I worry about my teen who needs me to support and care for her. I truly feel like giving up and I never felt this way about work Ever.

Age and Relocating

I have been seeking a job as I am also doing freelancing work. I spoke to a cousin who I had not spoken to for a few years. He was so happy in Florida and he encouraged me to just take a look at job market there. I come to find that there are many more opportunities and am thinking to relocate for a few years if I can find a job. Apparently Florida attracts retires and companies in Florida are not so quick to dismiss the idea of hiring older people that are 50 +. My cousin will let me stay there while I get my footing if I do actually relocate. I am thinking outside the box so I do not go nutty about things I can not change like my age.

Bus times & age

I live in the burbs of Chicago and am seeking employment. Here's the issue, I don't have a car and everything that would be a good for for me is too far away by bus. One position I know I would have been perfect for is 32 minutes away by car, BUT 6 1/2 hours away by bus/train/bus and walking, another position would have me leaving my house at 8:45pm to get there by 7:15am, I mean what the hell, when would I sleep, or even eat!! Please don't suggest uber/lyft I don't have the money for that. I applied to a couple places that ARE within walking distance, won't say where but as soon as the "when did you graduate high school" came up I was out, yes I'm 61 but I'm not useless. I'm just so flipping frustrated!!

Found work after a lot of prayers

I just started a new position last week. I had been looking for work for 6 months. I didn't have a lot of faith in finding a new one, but I did. I am 73 years old and have been a bankruptcy Paralegal for close to 30 years. I am working for a creditor now instead of debtors in their legal/bankruptcy department. For all of you out there looking, don't give of hope. Like I said, I am 73 years old and got a high paying fantastic job. Good luck to all.

Im not too old, yet.

I'm only 62. Not in the grave yet !! Have put my application out all over this area. I'm trying to keep close enough to where I live so I don't have to drive too far. Only looking for part time. Always loved all the people I've met where ever I've worked through the years. But....its been a long wait so far. I look around and see alot of younger people working , I'm proud they are but don't forget we older citizen's have a lot to give yet .

Combatting Age Discrimination in Hiring!

Plain and simple! There is serious age discrimination in the hiring process where more "seasoned" and experienced workers, all around the U.S., are being shut out from gainful employment due to age bias. In my opinion, this is one of the most important issues of our time. This should be fought! Any ideas?

What's wrong with me?

I am an Honorably discharged Veteran, and I am 69 years of age. I am in need of employment! Social security doesn't pay the bills. I don't have my own vehicle, so that limits my search. I have applied at the businesses in my neighborhood, and I have been interviewed many times. I have to walk. I walk with a cane. I am clean-cut, I answer their questions. Honestly, I wonder if it is my speech, my silver hair, the way I dress, my age, or my cane??? I have experience in Clerical, Retail, Customer service and Fast food. And still nothing. I live in Jacksonville Florida USA. Any thoughts? Thank you
