Am I still employable at 59 years old
I have not had success in my pursuit of gaining new employment. Am I alone in this experience?

68
I’m 68, been unemployed since Toys/Babies r Us closed last summer. I also had ankle surgery last August. I’ve was denied twice for unemployment, because of the surgery, and wasn’t cleared to work until December. When I’ve applied for jobs, I was turned away. In the meantime I’m in therapy, for depression. I volunteer at the local humane society. I know I’m being picky at jobs I’m looking for. I need something that’s flexible in the hours. I know after having surgery, and just from aging, I do have limitations. Lack of strength mostly, and standing for long period of time. I also worry getting in the same situation of getting into somewhere, and to lose my job. I’m not comfortable or confident at job interviews. I just want to find a job that I could be happy to get up in the morning to go to. Having someone tell me it’s just a job. Shouldn’t I deserve to be happy with my job? What I’m looking for somewhere I can be around animals. And yes, I’ve tried the local humane society with no luck. Any suggestions.

McDonald's teams with AARP to promote job opportunities for older workers

Steve
Hi, my name is Steve, I am a full time student at Springfield Technical Community College. I am 65 yrs old and I am enjoying the education, however I work for a company that is almost an hr away, It is also physically challenging and I have had some setbacks in maintaining the job, so I have incurred some points against me towards my termination. I don't mind the job it pays better than my last job a big retailer that didn't pay. I am hoping to graduate in 1/2020 and my major is Laser optics a very marketable career choice,(although I still worry a little about my chances. I don't want to lose my present job only because I don't like being fired but I need to find something closer. So I'm just babbling and I'm sure it will all work out but I may just have to quit if they don't give me a "hearing"

Older worker? Become "age-neutral" in your thinking!
If you are an unemployed older adult, it's easy to assume ageism or age discrimination when you're turned down for jobs time after time. Yes age discrimination does exist but it is not the barrier EVERY time. Don't let a presumption of "they'll think I'm too old" hold you back. And don't let it cloud your thinking and your analysis of what you can improve in order to become a more desirable candidate. https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/should-age-neutral-thing-jessica-goldberg #ageism #agediscrimination #olderworkers #jobsearch

Feeling very let down
I got excited about something called ticket to work for disabled people and seniors. I applied for it and later went to a potluck lunch with someone and the higher-ups asked me to fill out an application so I could be part of their team. It involves driving and in the past I hadn't paid much attention to a driving score. Doing the last four or five years I lost my dad and my husband and during those times I received tickets during each occasion. I was discussing the funeral both times with someone in my car and was ticketed for speeding. It would my score down too low for the job. I wanted the job so bad that I took an online driving course and raise my score greatly. I bestowed to get a CDL learner's permit and the ticket to work program said they can offer classes so I can get my CDL. I was placed on a waiting list a few months ago just to get a letter that states they really cannot help me because of the funds and that program. What is the use a building people up to finally get back into the workforce and get a life just to sit you on a shelf until they can come up with a letter of disappointment. I truly was hoping to get something before these kids get out of school and take up all the jobs during the summer. I was so excited now to be so disappointed.. I can't even get the cdl learner's because you can only hold it three months and you have to go for your regular license. I am wanting to drive a bus but I must take a bus to get the correct endorsement. They offer classes but you have to pay for those and you need a job to pay for those. Had I gotten the job with the other company that seem to want my assistance they would have had the vehicles to help me get that CDL and I would have committed myself to working for them. To get excited and get slammed down it's like walking into a brick wall I guess..
