Tips from Todd: :How to make your resume work twice as hard.....

I have been a recruiter forever. Here are some tips:

If you are really in a push and need a a job asap do 2 things- 1) Create a resume and post it on web sites. That is called being a passive candidate- letting the people come to you. Here are some sites to post it on- Monster.com , indeed.com, dice.com, careerbuilder.com, glassdoor.com, your local craigslist, and Ziprecruiter. This is not all of them but probably the best of them. Put your resume on all of these though. All of these are free. IMPORTANT- if you post your resume on these go in once a week and change one word on your resume or cruise their sit. This will allow recruiters to see you have been recently active!

  1. Look for jobs on these sites and apply to any job you feel you are an 80% match to! Then follow up by Googling the companies number (local preferred) and call them and tell them you would like an interview please to job # 14623 (always write down the job order number). This is called active job seeking. So, in closing, you want your resume to work for you passively, while you are searching actively.

Happy hunting, Todd

Getting nowhere

It's that simple. I've put in applications to well over a hundred companies. Hardly EVER hear anything back let alone promising. My resume and cover letter are updated and on point in my opinion. I truly believe its who you know and frankly I'm a homebody so there arent too many people that I know well enough to get my foot in the door at a promising, well paying company. I'm frustrated and discouraged at this point.

Job eliminated after 30 years

My general manager has had it for me for over a year and a half and finally had my job eliminated. Starting over again hasn’t been easy. Trying to get past the Robo Recruiter is difficult. Any suggestions? I’ve been networking with as many friends as I can, but realize they can only do so much.

I'm A Little New At This

I'm kind of new at finding jobs online, I'm usually a person who goes out to places to find a job, but I haven't really had time recently to go out hunting for one. If you have any tips, please let me know. Also here is a random drawing of mine that is also my profile picture.

Job interview

So I was referred to this company for a job interview I had my Hope's high i went in very professional the interviewer, interviewed me had me meet the whole staff I was interviewed by two other staff members that gave me really good feedback on the interview told me I am a great candidate then the 1st interviewer came back in the room and told me that she will be given me call on Monday....Monday came around and no call so I waited to Tuesday and I sent her an email here am hoping oh my god I got the job super anxious and excited that I get good news to later after a couple of hours during the day she send me an email that she went with another candidate. How I hate these companies that give you high hopes waist your time to just say sorry what is wrong with them.

It's all about your network!

I finally landed a VP level job after being laid off three months ago. As part of my severance package, I received three months access to a professional firm to assist with resume, interviewing, networking, and other learning sessions Several stats stood out to me that I hope many will benefit from.

  1. Over 75% of all jobs are acquired through someone in your network.
  2. About 10-15% come from you applying on job boards
  3. The average response rate to you blindly applying for a job is about 2-3%.

My advice, reach out to anyone and everyone. Don't stop the hunt and going to job sites, but don't spend the majority of your time there.

Letters of Recommendation

What does an ideal letter of recommendation look like? If you have an example from past work or experience, I'd like to use that in a future employment setting. Personally, the perfect letter of recommendation would sort of mimic the cover letter but tailored towards the specific person. If I were to write one, my personal requirements would be to know the person for a minimum of 3+ months as well as 3 essays, articles or publications. If you were a manager, what are your requirements?
