Mass Marketing Mess !!

Recently I was called in for an interview, and immediately I thought to myself oh boy !! something does not feel right about this. This was the most unprofessional hiring and screening process that I have ever seen. It felt like a cattle drive, get them in, get him out. I get it ! it's a numbers game. The more applicants that you have the better chances to find a great candidate. But then when I was called back for the second interview, a group of us were taken to another building around the corner and down the street to sit in a public lobby of a building in which they didn't have an office or any business association. After sitting there for three hours while they scanned the yellow pages for business-to-business contacts. I came to the conclusion in no way or no how what I want to be associated with such an inappropriate company. Sorry guys I know sometimes we make choices for a paycheck that will not lead to a career but I highly advise anyone to stay as far away from this company as possible. Unfortunately I'm not at Liberty to mention the company's name because of defamation actions. But word to the wise please stay away from mass marketing companies off of 8th Avenue in New York City. Unless you have nothing better to do then waste your time .

Experience

I ran a business for over 13 years. I have experience with hiring, training, HR paperwork, all levels of development from CSR to operating partner, marketing, community involvement, fundraising, P&L assessment and most importantly developing the youth of today into function adults. What does a girl have to do to get a job??

Marketing Communications Specialist

Hello Everyone,

After years of trying, for the first time I have finally gotten past the first obstacle in my career change aspirations, and have been contacted for a phone interview for a Marketing Communications Specialist.

I wanted to reach out to the community, in particular to anyone currently in a marketing communications role, to ask what kinds of questions I should be on the lookout for, and what to avoid. I’m very excited and I’m not sure if/when I’ll get another opportunity like this, so I want to be as prepared as possible to give myself the best chance of finally making this change.

No advice will be ignored, and I thank you all in advance for any wisdom you’d be willing to share!

What's the maximum # of pages or file size you would submit for a sample writing portfolio?

Of course I realize this probably varies depending upon where and for what job you're applying. I do business writing and content marketing, so I like to show style and subject mastery. When I get beyond 12 pages the response numbers drop off. My collection reads like a "12 days of Xmas" verse: 4 PR Queries, 3 Online Features; 2 mid-size articles; and one Hashtag Thisdayinstress (which is my lead, with pics). Any other writers out there with similar or completely different strategies?
