First impressions are formed in just 7 seconds — make them count!

Whether you're walking into a job interview, attending a networking event, or meeting a potential client, the way you present yourself right away can have a lasting impact.

Here are a few proven ways to leave a strong, positive impression:

Dress the part – Your appearance should match the tone of the environment. Clean, appropriate attire shows respect and preparedness.

Make eye contact and smile if you are able to do so – Confidence and warmth go hand in hand.

Offer a professional handshake if you are able to do so – Not too firm, not too soft. Just enough to show you're engaged.

Listen more than you speak – Show genuine interest in the other person. People remember how you made them feel.

Be yourself – Authenticity is magnetic. Trying too hard can backfire.

You never get a second chance to make a first impression — so bring your best self from the moment you walk in.

Coping with Holiday Stress while Job Searching

It might be the most wonderful time of the year, but it can be the most stressful one too. Between shopping for last-minute presents and staying on top of your job search, you can burn out pretty quickly.

Since the holidays can wreak havoc on you emotionally and physically if you don’t pace yourself, here’s how to cope with holiday stress.

Coping With Holiday Stress While Job Searching — Get Your Zzzs

In an attempt to do it all, you might be tempted to shave off a few hours of sleep here and there. But skimping out on your sleep can be very dangerous for your health. A lack of sleep can increase your chances of having high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, some kinds of cancers, and even death.

Even if you want to accomplish a lot, be sure to sleep at least seven or eight hours a night to ensure optimum health. That way, you’ll protect your sleep—and your sanity.

— Manage Your Expectations From impeccably staged Instagram posts to holiday movies featuring families lovingly gathered around the table, it’s understandable to want to strive for a picture-perfect holiday. The thing is, it just doesn’t exist—and you can drive yourself crazy trying to make it happen.

Instead, focus on doing only what’s necessary during the holidays and embrace the imperfections. You’ll alleviate some anxiety by understanding that your holiday doesn’t have to go perfectly to be amazing and memorable.

— Create and Stick to a Budget While giving and receiving gifts is a part of the holiday season, it’s easy to feel stressed out when gifts, holiday parties, cookie exchanges, and everything else create a strain on our budgets.

To help reduce the financial stresses the holidays can bring, create and stick to a budget. Set a dollar limit on gifts, or consider homemade gifts instead. Or, donate your money or time to charity in lieu of giving a gift.

— Make Time for Exercise Whether you’re a job seeker or a remote worker, you might find that you’re more sedentary than if you were working in a traditional office. But keeping your health front and center during the holidays can go a long way toward relieving stress. Make it a point to put exercise on your daily to-do list—even 20 minutes of exercise can keep stress at bay.

— Eat Healthy Pumpkin pie, turkey and stuffing, grandma’s famous cakes and cookies—the list of savory and sweet dishes you look forward to during the holidays could be endless. And while you can (and should!) indulge in these culinary delights, don’t go overboard.

Balance your holiday treats with healthy foods too. And make sure to drink plenty of water alongside the adult beverages. Eating enough healthy foods during the holidays helps ensure you don’t feel tired, sluggish, or stressed.

— Plan It Out There’s so much to do during the holidays that it’s easy to get overwhelmed. Between wrapping presents, cooking holiday foods, and everything else, you may feel like there are not enough hours in the day to get it all done.

To help beat the feeling that you’re racing to beat the clock, plan out your holiday activities. Set aside specific days for baking, shopping, and wrapping presents. This gives you a clear idea of when you have time for parties, your job search, or restocking the wrapping paper.

— Make Time for You Many people complain that they cannot find any time for themselves during the holidays. But it’s crucial to have “me time” in order to feel refreshed. When you sacrifice your personal time (such as skipping the gym or even having a relaxing cup of tea at night), you can become irritable and unhappy. Carve out time during your day—no matter how much is on your holiday to-do list—and do something that is just for you.

— Stick to Your Job Search If you thought that you could put a pause on your job search during the holidays, think again. Companies continue hiring during the holiday season, so it’s important to keep your search active. To lessen your stress levels, though, you might slow your search down a bit to spend quality time with loved ones. After the holidays are over, you can ramp up your job search again.

Finding Balance While there’s likely no way to make the holidays completely stress-free, following these tips will go a long way toward helping you stay balanced during this busy season.

Nicole, housekeeping jobs at 'high-end' hotels are not hard to get - and keep if u do a good job. There is a good chance u can ask for a schedule that would allow u time to go to one of these beauty schools for... Always present at work fashionable - hair, makeup..., & be sociable w/ both the staff AND THE PATRONS - the hotel industry is where all the traffic comes thru that u want to meet! Proudly engage in conversation the fact that u are finally starting a career in ..(the fashion industry). It is also possible that u could meet someone that would help sponsor the cost of u're schooling; or u could apply for a "free money grant". (P.S. I didn't 4get u have kids!) GOOD LUCK

Your graduation year...

Has a potential (or existing) employer ever asked you for your graduation year? If so, you are NOT alone. This may seem like a harmless question, but chances are the employer is trying to determine your age. Here are some things you should know and what you can do!

-What employers CAN ask The Age Discrimination in Employment Act does NOT prohibit an employer from asking about an applicant’s (or employee’s age), or from asking other questions that may help the employer determine a person’s age such as when you graduated high school or college. It is currently legal for them to ask.

-What they CAN’T do It is however 100% illegal for the employer to take that information (graduation date, age, etc) and then discriminate based on that individual’s age. For example, saying something along the lines of, “You are too old for this role."

-Is this happening to OTHER people? According to AARP, two out of three workers between ages 45 and 74 say they have seen or experienced age discrimination at work, and job seekers over age 35 cite it as a top obstacle to getting hired. If you happen to work in the high-tech or entertainment industries, your chances of experiencing age discrimination are even higher.

-What YOU can do Make sure to keep your skills updated on your resume and show them you are current. Unfortunately, you cannot prevent someone from inquiring about your age. If they truly want to know they will likely ask, but if they do, answer honestly and with confidence. Again make sure your skills are updated and clearly show in your resume that you can take on the role before you even apply. If your skills aren’t current, take a class or two and be prepared before you apply. When in doubt if you feel the company just might not be right for you, do your research first and then apply. It even might help you avoid that question, to begin with.

It's better to work for a company that values YOU and all that you bring instead of seeing your age as an obstacle.

Has anyone ever shot you down because of your graduation year?

What did you do/say?

When All Else Fails ... Take A Nap!

When you know not what to do .. take a nap or stop thought by meditating! Doing these two things breaks the patterns of faulty thinking died in its tracks. While sleeping all energy is "Reset".

Someone reminded me yesterday when my mind was running around in a circle about seemingly some major issue I was having about with my new job. I thought I was right on the brink of losing because I couldn't figure out how to resolve a work issue.

This person advised me: "When you know not what to do .. do nothing."

Well things just kept getting worse, so I turned off my cell phone, shut down my computer and shutdown my body, and mind as much as I was capable of at that time ... and went to bed. It was like 4:00 PM in the afternoon. However, I felt that as long as my mind was running rampant this was attracting thoughts of likeness to the bad one that set it all off.

Therefore, I was creating situations of likeness to itself. I did this right at a point of thinking that this contract position I just received was over no sooner then I had started, just this week.

So "Mental Reset" was required to break up the momentum I was building in a direction I did not want!

So this morning not long after awakening and doing my daily "Mind Reset" a new thought manifested about the situation and instead of me doing what I've always done in similar situations and that is just to walk away ... I did something new, and even though its to soon to tell I believe I broke a bad habit and more than likely will get a better result.

It might not amount to anymore than me feeling better about myself, but this for me is totally acceptable, and will indeed put me in a better mindset than what has happened in the past.

Out on a limb.

So, I say about a month or so ago I was searching desperately for a job since I had recently moved 20 hours, had multiple interviews all with rejection. But, I stopped by a shop I had frequented in the time I had been here and the guy inside gave me the idea to apply to one of their other locations 30 minutes away. So, next day after I'd say my 30th interview, I drove the 30 minutes to somewhere I'd never been and went in the shop proceeded to talk to the store manager about my experience and how is heard about the opening, he proceeded to hand me an application, finished the application and waited to hear "I'm sorry we have to interview other applicants". But was welcomed with "Can you come in tomorrow to fill out some tax paperwork? You can start the day after that". Point of the story, never be discouraged from all the rejections you recive. I've been working this job over a month and couldn't be happier with where I'm at. Keep Pushing Forward.
