Don’t Dumb Down

This article has some good strategies I used to approach the “you’re overqualified” rejections I’ve been dealing with for way too long now. I started using an experience and skills heavy loaded resume recently and started landing more interviews. I took a few nuggets from this article I found online to help me prep for 2 interviews this week. These are three that stood out but I’m open to any other suggestions on how I can persuade those managers to just give me an opportunity.

1.Connect specific skills and work experience directly to the company needs outlined on job description in order to prove you will have no problem getting the job done. 2. If you suspect the company has concerns over salary then highlight instances throughout your career where you’ve raised revenue or cut cost to demonstrate value. 3.Cutting edge industry knowledge make a huge difference in the hiring decision. Demonstrate you’ve got a pulse on new technology or operational procedures

What do you think?

So worth it

Hello fellow jobcase, just wanted to let you know. That after such a long time looking. I start working for Texas Children on 8/7/17. Thank you lord for hearing my prayers. For everyone here on job case. If I can do it you can to. It's tiring I know. But don't give up. Heck if your on line and the position hasn't been filled. Especially the one you interviewed for. Email the recruiter let them know them know if position is avialable still. Never know. I got the job. I pray that each and everyone of you find a job. Although I still haven't opened my staffing agency doesn'the mean I can't help. If you need work, send me your resume, what it is your looking for. How far your willing to drive. If your looking for a travel job. A little summary of you. If your a person who stands out or likes to be with in a group. Email me at angelicadez@gmail.com. within USA please for now. Just to help you out. Again this is just to help you. Once your hired, just a thank you would be ok. I know how hard it is. I do these for friends and family. Just let them know where they are hiring. So again let me help you. Act of random kidness can help. Have a great day everyone! God bless you all!

JST: Don’t Limit Yourself to Online Applications

You want that job search to last and last? Well, then continue to rely solely on submitting online applications. Do you want to accelerate this bad boy? Don’t stop once you apply online for that position. Start finding and then endearing yourself to people working at that company of interest. Schedule informational interviews with would-be peers. Approach an internal recruiter and ask a few questions. Get on the radar of the very people who might influence you getting an interview. (More on that here .)

Tip

By lining up with people on the inside of the companies at which you want to work, you will instantly set yourself apart. Decision makers interview people who come recommended or by way of a personal referral before they start sorting through the blob of resumes that arrive by way of the ATS.

Feeling down :(

No matter what I do, no matter how much training and schooling I have I just can't seem to find anything in my field! I've gotten my Bachelor's in Professional Writing, my Master's in English and Creative Writing and now I'm working on my MFA in Creative Writing, I didn't feel comfortable moving on to a PhD. I always get the same old "while your skills and qualifications are impressive you do not meet our qualifications." yada yada. I don't have 50 million years of experience in my field but geez how much more qualified do I need to be? I'm just feeling so depressed, like why can't I get a chance?

What's the Point?

After working for a major vacation resort here in Las Vegas, I was "eliminated". No doubt because they couldn't fire me, since I was a model employee with absolutely nothing wrong in my personnel file. Now, I find myself at age 57 and unable to even get an interview. Countless applications and resume submissions, and nothing! For the first time in my life, I'm on unemployment, which runs out at the year of the year. Then what? I've worked since I was 16 years old. But I guess that doesn't count for anything. Even the temp agency I signed up with can't find anything for me. What now??

Forced to retire too early--follow at the "rules" but get no replies

I was forced out two years before I planned to retire. Struggling to pay for benefits on my own. Doing a considerable amount of networking; on Linked In; doing everything the experts say, but no interviews set up. How do I proceed?
