Enough! United we stand!
I am here in Minneapolis today to support our constitution and basic human rights. I am here to show our support for what is being referred to as a day of Truth and Freedom.
Many organizations that share our passion to empower workers and people now call for this day of protest – they include local and regional chapters of SEIU, AFL-CIO, Labor Federation, Labor councils around the MN region, Unite Here, Communications Workers, SPaul Federation of Educators, Amalgamated Transit Union, MN Nurses Association, many faith based orgs and business orgs. It’s a privilege to support and join them in what is essentially a call that we simply retain constitutional rights – in particular that the 1st, 4th, 5th, 6th, 8th, 10th, and 14th Amendments be upheld.
It seems to me we can all agree that of course a nation needs a rational immigration policy and that that immigration policy, like any law, should be enforced.
But it also seems that we should not pretend that flooding our neighborhoods, workplaces, schools, and homes with often ill-trained, military-armed, masked men, creating chaos, ignoring rights, and disrupting communities is a reasonable or constitutional form of enforcement. We should not tolerate the violation of First and Fourth Amendment rights in particular. We should not allow dictates from misguided men in DC to incorrectly grant “blanket immunity” to men to do whatever they wish in local communities, whose representatives btw have strived to reject their presence. We should not normalize deaths and rapes in detention centers, chemical weapon attacks on protesters, and the inhumane treatment of children. We should not villainize a protesting mom who was shot to death in the left temple from a passenger window with official unquestioning support of that type of judgment (which potentially sets the stage for further tragedies). We should not tolerate what we all know is something we would not want in our own neighborhoods. United we stand!
Of course, democracy is not all about us agreeing.
We can disagree on policy. We should AGREE on constitutional integrity.
We can disagree on candidates. We should AGREE on intolerance of corruption.
We can AGREE on the necessity of immigration policies and enforcement, while disagreeing on the specific details thereof. But..
We should Agree to do so in a humane manner, consistent with our constitution and in a manner that reflects cooperation with, and respect for, local governance and communities. And when faced with the opposite, we all have a duty to stand up and say NO!
Among those things that make us great are our democracy and constitution, and our humanity. And those are worth standing up for!
So, it's a privilege to join arms with other patriots today on this cold, cold day of protest in Minneapolis. Because Minneapolis is not alone. We stand with you. United we stand!

Time for reflection?
Here are 2 great resources if you are at a point in your life where you think you could pick your head up and consider a diff path
- Clay Christensen was a McKinsey partner and Harvard Busienss School professor. He was also a strategy genius. He was also a rare person who had incredible success while maintaining hte very best of character. Before he died, he thought about applying strategy to ones own life. This book is the result and it is transformative to your achieving the life you desere to achieve. Check it out.
- and Randy Pauschs last lecture: https://youtu.be/ji5_MqicxSo?si=C3Cr22RTy3W7N_zF. Randy was a popular CMU professor whose life was tragically cut short. Before he passed, he ran a 'last lecture' for his students and fans. This is a must-watch when you have the space to consider your life path before you.

New beginnings can be exciting - not scary!
I saw this online this morning and thought I'd share it here. So many of us are starting over. Some of us forced to do so. Some of us choosing to do so.
For whatever reason -there is plenty of reason to be excited not scared about it. In entrepreneurship we often talk about how failures are just a path to success. Each time a journey ends, or experiment fails -there is learning. The only sad thing would be if one did not build on that learning.
So if you are in the start-over camp. You got this!

Let’s make it a great one for ourselves AND each other!

Spreading Joy (esp during busy shopping weeks) - important aspect of worker empowerment
Quick reminder to be kind when shopping and running around this week. Especially on the shopping day people call 'black friday'. (btw, am I the only one who dislikes that name?).
We all have an opportunity to spread joy and love - not only to our loved ones over Thanksgiving dinner, but also to all the great workers serving us in stores, restaurants, and deliveries. Let's remember to prioritize empathy and kindness to our fellow workers we encounter.
Worker empowerment starts with supporting one another. We know that many places are understaffed and overworked. So when things go wrong out there, lets pause to remember its not that frontline hero's fault. And they prob had to deal with customers that do NOT remember that - so what a chance to help make their day better.
Check out this page for some quick info of a survey we did - over 60% are worried about safety on black Friday. Lets step up and support one another. And lets spread some good Holiday joy!

How Jobcase is pushing for worker-value in Board Rooms
No question our system is out of balance. Everyone sees it. Even CEO's of the biggest companies agree. For example, in 2019 210 of them signed a pledge to pursue 'stakeholder capitalism' not just shareholder value mantra as a guiding principle" . And yet, not much has changed for the better since then - other than our collective realization during the pandemic that we need to accelerate the change.
So Unions are gaining ground. And the media is paying attention.
Jobcase has a mission to empower workers. Our intent is to provide this platform where we all can get help from each other and from tools we will keep building and curating. Help to figure out that next step - however, each of us may define it (education, a better job, different job, etc). But empowerment also means having the system itself be more supportive.
So Jobcase has a responsibility to advocate on a macro policy level for workers -and we are on it! Our main approach will be collective consumerism. We talk about it here. We have over 20 million registered members active in our Jobcase network every month. Imagine if we all collectively spent our consumer dollars on employers who treat workers best. The rest would HAVE to improve conditions as well.
But to do so we need to define a good employer (from worker's view), measure it, surface them, and reward them.
Fast Company asked us recently to explain it all - here it is.
So please know -while we keep investing to make this platform serve you better, we also are working to advocate for you in policy and board rooms.
Because when we get together, we get ahead! #GetTogetherGetAhead
