Hi, I am currently a senior in high school looking for a part time job. I am able to work evenings Monday through Friday and all day on Saturdays. I am interested in working as a personal shopper or a cashier at a grocery store. I wouldn’t mind working as a cashier at a gas station or other stores along those lines. This would be my first job but I am very excited and eager to have a job and be able to have more responsibilities and independence for my self. I am very hardworking, honest, responsible, respectful, great at working with others and have very good social skills. I hope that you will consider me for your next person you hire. Thanks, Maya

One good employee makes a difference, and they dont like that.

I worked 4 years in hvac maintemance at a large casino after first serving as a slot attendant ,and slot floor supervisor for 4 years prior. I was was by trade a woodworker prior to employment with the resort. In 2006 the stockmarket tanked, economy went with it. Slots had transotioned to paper from coin and I felt a lay off coming. I got hired as an engineer in hotel maintenance 2008. Just as I settled into new job the expected layoff came, and it was huge. I expected to get my walking papers, but was retained while more senior higher paid assets were dismissed. Prior to layoff hvac maintenance retained 4 full time hvac technicians, 4 maintenance engineers, and 4 maintenance attendants 6 on each side of the street. After the layoff on my side of the street. There was only me left. With no experience in hvac. I took a vo-tech course in hvac aquired my universal technician certification. Taught myself about1000 ton chillers and 120 ton air cooled ac units. Streamlined my dept, made and kept maintenance file on every piece of hvac related equipment. I focused mostly on daily, weekly, monthly preventive maintenance, filters, belts, ect. while making observations and documenting those observations, and seaching out the causes of various anomalies that arise in very complex systems. By the third year my maintenance calls were usually answered by me at the source of the call, clearing the call as dispatch relayed the call to me. I usually caught most problems on my daily walk through. The hvac dept from 1995 untill today has had a service contract with Trane systems, they made two yearly checks. They based their yealy fee on results of those checks. That fee had increased every year from 1995-2009. And during those years as many as 8 employees in hvac on each side of street. Every year equipment getting worse and fee going up. By my second year by myself, one man, no experience. The yearly fee didnt change, my third year the fee decreased, and again it decreased in my fourth and last year. Trane techs said I added ten years to the life of the equipment, and that if I called them they could count on my information and assessments, saving them time. Thing is , my bosses absolutely despised me for doing that by myself , 1 man all alone making such a big difference. Im pretty sure, I was put in the job all alone expected to fail. My only solace or point of joy, besides pride in my work, was that I wouldnt take a technician title. Though their idea of a tech would look at what I was doing and say thats above and below their skillset and pay grade. I could fix anything or solve any problem. But I didnt have to, and they couldnt make me as long as I was just an engineer. But if they asked nice I would take a look at it. I finally left took a job over hotel maintenance. Where manager had been adjusting a thermostat to ac unit for two years that had been non-operative for two years, also thought it was normal to have a little old lady come in and wipe the condensate off the windows every morning in the pool room, rather than fix the dehumidifer. I can work for ignorant people, even stupid people. As long as they will admit they dont know. That was the first thing I did when I looked at cooling towers and 1000 ton centrifugal chillers. I said Lord, I aint got a clue, and I was 44 years old. I believe I suffer PTSD from putting so much into that job and getting no recognition, been 10-11 years feels like yesterday, havent worked since, getting fired, for not signing an unexcused absence over a month after the date it Occurred. Did hear that they fired all the bosses I had.
But theres always another somebody that wants to be a boss over other people and exercise their authority just for the sake of it or just because they have no joy , no love, no respect, no wonder in their hearts. Im not that smart, but the God that moves me , will show you wonders through me, why not be delighted with me?

    I feel better now. #interview

My best advice

My best advice being an entrepreneur and double business owner is DON'T UNDERESTIMATE YOUR VALUE OR WORTH TO A COMPANY. Many times would be job seekers don't apply for jobs because they may lack one of the "prerequisites" listed on the ideal candidate list. I'll let you in on a little secret...most job seekers who submit resumes change their's to fit the job they are applying for. A large percentage also "bend the truth" a bit to put themselves in a better light. Put down what you have to to get that first interview and then it's all in your hands. Never think that you don't deserve a job because there are many other more qualified applicants out there. I know a guy who applied for a carbon Fibre job and had absolutely no experience in carbon but was a skilled machinist and self taught engineer and knew a few carbon places and put them down on his resume and 20 years later he is a VP for the parent company.
