Cathartic release!

Several moons ago, I worked for a Northern California division of a successful, regional health care provider. I won't divulge the name of the company. Anyway, I worked there an analyst for about 2 years. I liked my job. I was capable and I was a company person. I was also 69 years old (I don't look it though). No complaints. Then the division was acquired by a much larger, more visible publically traded company. Things went along smoothly at first; I did everything I was supposed to and beyond. However, when the new manager replaced the old manager, circumstances began to change for me. The new manager, remotely located in Southern California, started to "nick pick" at me. She insisted that I account for my time on a daily basis by submitting an email with an attached spreadsheet listing all my daily work activities and the amount of time it took to complete, something no other analyst was asked to do. Now I am a professional in everything I do, so I did what she requested. At that time I was producing over a 150 reports per month. Nevertheless, she kept coming at me and went so far to blame me for errors/mistakes others in my unit had made. I soon realized that I was living on borrowed time. And, sure enough my ticket was punched and I was terminated because "business conditions had changed" and I was no longer needed. I cannot prove age discrimination. And, my employer made me sign a waiver not to talk about my termination... in exchange for receiving a severance package including a monthly pay check and a check for all my accrued vacation time. More than I expected. So, in conclusion, here I sit one year later and still no job. No complaints. I will dig myself out! Even though I get knocked down a lot, I continue to get back up. Hope springs eternal and by sharing my adventures with you I feel better.

THE BEST thing about working for #PetSmart is

PetSmart is an excellent company with which to build a career if you are sales driven and passionate about pet care. They will go to every length to help you succeed in your chosen career path and don't fall for the media hype that they do not care about animal welfare. This is taken seriously. I thoroughly enjoyed my years with PetSmart and appreciate all I learned through them.

My tip for someone who wants to work for #Beacon would be to...

They are a top notch company with excellent benefits. It is my experience you need to constantly communicate with the manager to make sure you are meeting their expectations. Make sure you are being properly trained. When you ask for notes and they say you will get it, with out slowing down and making them give you the steps. You will not get it. They do not give you time to adjust to their ways of doing things before they decide you are not worth it and move on to the next candidate. (Just get expectations in writing)

Companies who cater to Mom's cater to success!

I was disheartened to read about pregnancy discrimination in this NYT article. Not only is ‘pregnancy discrimination’ morally repugnant, it is also quite financially stupid. Unequivocally, @jobcase, Inc. owes much of our great success to the awesome working-Moms who move us forward every day. If u want your company to succeed- make it an attractive place to work for moms - and of course especially for new Moms when they are navigating the joys and challenges around pregnancy. Have any of you experienced pregnancy discrimination ? How did you react? How do you suggest others to react? #pregnancy #discrimination #culture #mom # DoWhatsRight #success

Thoroughly Frustrated!

Is it legal for an employee to be forced to work an 18 hour shift? On Saturday, 4/14/18, I punched in @ 1:30pm & wasn't allowed to leave until 7:15am Sunday! To top it off, I was alone in the store by 10:30pm, the store was robbed around 1am & NO leadership showed up to assess the losses, despite company policy. I protested, but still returned to work Monday, 4/17/18, only to find out that my superiors lied to me & flat out ignored protocol so they could hang out with friends & family. They showed no regard for my safety, nor any respect for me as a person! I refused to return & was terminated 4/21/18. There HAS to be a law that prevents this type of abuse! Now, almost 2 months later, I have yet to find a new job. I know standing up for myself was the right thing to do, but I need to take care of my family! I'm tempted to go beg for my job back, but I also know that kind of mistreatment will probably continue. Either way, the struggle is REAL......
