Post retirement work - what is next?
First, I have no desire to “age-proof” my resume - I am a healthy & active almost 64 YO with pandemic-inspired natural white hair AND 40 years of experience, climbing that ladder to an exec-level position with a solid salary.
After the small company I helped launch and grow was recently acquired by private equity, I assisted with the transition and “retired.” I have a few months’ consulting agreement. My goals are more time with family, freedom, less pressure. And much less work. I want to work PT, and the job market is so good that I am not likely taking a job from someone who needs it more.
I have no clue where to go from being VP of a small company where I wore 10 “hats” - HR & Benefits, accounting, contract review & negotiation (inactive attorney), high level customer service, pitched in wherever needed, and since the pandemic, worked and managed productively.
My son suggested I prepare 3 resumes - one for each of my experience areas - (1) legal research, writing, and editing. (2) Human Resources, payroll and benefits admin, (3) bookkeeping, accounting, and local, state and federal business compliance.
Thoughts? I want to make enough to postpone drawing social security until full retirement age - about 3 years out. I do not expect or even want the kind of salary I was making.

I think you may stand a good chance of getting a contract job from home for one of the military hospitals. It's a solid job. And fun. I do medical billing and coding. Military us easier.
Good Luck I only list retired and my accomplishments. No years.

While your son has a great idea with 3 resumes, I feel like your background as a general manager who experience speaks to breadth of knowledge and agility represents the complete picture of what you can offer. Instead, tailor as needed for the jobs you are applying to to pull out the relevant experience. Congrats on your transition, it sounds well deserved:)

You want the best job in the world that you will never want to retire from and your can make what ever income you want? Travel!

I guess retirement will suit you just fine...😊

I think your son is right: Prepare the three resumes & explain that you have not an inkling to retire soon. I think all places risk losing their older workers to retirement & don't want to invest in them. Sadly, ageism exists. But I'm hoping you beat the odds. Good luck!

Business start-up? They could probably use your experience.

@Marsha Guthrie if she does that then she will be overqualified for almost anything she applies for. That’s why but I do understand your point as well.

Almost same situation. Overqualified, and not young enough ("where do you see yourself in 5 years and 10 years?") for many positions where companies are looking for hungry employees. Donated my suits. In the beginning went on a few interviews but the same, stupid "myers briggs" and other cookie cutter questions with the same answers were not something I could stomach for long. Now do substitute teaching and guest services 2-3 times a week to keep busy. Work to keep busy. Totally agree with the suggestion to tailor you resume to the job you are applying for.

Why don’t you get a job creating the future? Put all of your experience to work! Find a high school or junior high school near you and an alternative certification program and teach Career and Technology classes! Tell kids about real world life skills! How to balance a business bank account! Teach accounting! Change a kid’s life and create the future!
