Stop the stigma of mental illness

How's everyone holding up?
Can't speak for anyone but myself but I'm finding our current situation pretty activating in terms of my mental health. Tele-psychotherapy is just not the same as the "real thing" and it's taking a toll on me. That said, I'm very grateful to my providers for still "seeing" patients and helping those of us who need it. Is anyone in this group having trouble getting the help you need in this time? I certainly hope that's not the case but if it is, maybe we can work together to research the options available in your area. Happy to help!

Checking in on my fellow #Jobcasers in this group
Hi to all my peeps in this group. I just wanted to check in and send my support in this difficult time. I think this is a particularly hard time to get support as providers, social workers, psychologists, etc are forced to shut down or go to virtual sessions. So, if you do need support, I encourage you to post here -- together we've got this!

Setting expectations when you're having a tough time outside of the office
So I'm currently going through a difficult time outside work and I had to have the internal debate as to whether I should let a handful of people at work know because, ultimately, it was affecting my productivity at work. I ended up coming to the conclusion that, in order to be a responsible employee, I should share the information with my boss, HR, and a few select people who I trust and work with closely.
This can be a daunting thing to do but I advocate for it for two reasons:
Setting expectations with your work and colleagues about what you can and cannot do is the right thing and the responsible thing to do.
When the thing that is impacting your work is due to the side effects of emotional upheaval or mental illness, having the conversation (without ever needing to go into more depth than you're comfortable with) helps normalize the notion that we are all human, we all have varying degrees of emotional stability, and we can recognize that fact. Talking about it is not a bad thing and, in the vein of this group, helps move us in the direction of stopping the stigma of mental illness.

Great post from a fellow Jobcaser!
Really liked this post on improving mental health and wanted to share!

Had To Join!!
I saw this group as I was scrolling through the community and I just had to join!! I was diagnosed with Mental Illness 24 years ago then given an SMI Label about 5 years ago. But the best part is I found my way into stability and Recovery and finally successfully accomplished my goal of becoming certified as a Peer Support Specialist which I'm currently seeking part time Employment for. Im passionate about helping others and I will strive to give those I work with HOPE and show them living proof that WE CAN RECOVER!! ❤️

Invisible Illness
As well-controlled mental depression sufferer, I'd like to advocate for those who suffer more from the stigma than from the illness.

Jeanine A
I am on mental disability since 2011. Thank God no hospitalization since then. Anyway I have therapy and my meds monitored if needed. I am a big advocate of taking meds regularly and seeking therapy. I would love the chance to pay back and help others who are struggling.

Thank you for this Group!!I am a new Peer Support Specialist. My background includes fifteen-plus years in the Medical field. My goal in this new career is to offer HOPE to every Mental Health client!! Also: it is long overdue to STOP THE STIGMA OF MENTAL ILLNESS!!!
