Mental Health 5 Ways To Improve Yours.
Is it just me or do you feel a little stressed at times? Maybe you feel overwhelmed and like a chicken running blindfolded from the time you wake up to the time you pass out at night?
If this resonates with you, I want to discuss some daily actions I can guarantee will help you acquire more inner peace. The options list is long, but I'll limit this to 5 things to improve mental health.
Protect the first 20 mins of the day. In the personal development industry, it's widely known high achievers protect the start of the day. The first 20 or so minutes of your day creates a momentum that is almost impossible to escape. Therefore if you hop out of bed, stub your toe and fall into an angry fury, it is almost guaranteed the day will continue down that path. Be sure to start the day in peace and calm mentally. (see tip 3) For some, this means getting up earlier.
Breath deeply more - It sounds simple but 100% of the time if you are in a high emotional state like stress, you are breathing shallowly. Shallow breathing is always connected to shallow thinking. Make breathing deep into your lower abdomen a habit. If you need to set a timer throughout the day as a remember to take a moment to breathe deeply, do it! Yes, our bodies naturally take breathing action on, however, the ability to control one's own breathing more and more, is an elevation in consciousness and a step up the ladder of spiritual ascension.
Quiet the mind - Otherwise known as meditation, this by far is one of the most impactful things you can do for your mental health. To start you only need 5 minutes a day and you can move up in time from there. When you wake up, set a timer for 2 1/2 minutes. In the bed, with your feet on the ground, likely still groggy just sit for that time and focus only on breathing or you can count, but avoid thinking about what needs to be done. Do this also before bed. 5 minutes a day to change your life, its worth it!
Attack Reaction Cycles - Take your power back! Does a friend or family member know exactly what pushes your buttons? Could they run the perfect prank on you because you are so predictable in your reactions? Start today breaking thinking cycles that are running on autopilot. 2 tips to doing this both start with the understanding there is a small space between what happens and how we react. It's your choice in that space. When every time button A is pressed and you react the same way you become a puppet to the world. Whether they do it or not people around you know they can control you, by doing something knowing exactly how you'll respond. This does include anger. That makes you a slave to circumstances and situations.
Tip 1 increases the space between events and reactions. This is your power zone. Growing awareness is not easy since we are trying to literally expand our own consciousness, but it is possible. Before you react, respond or chime in on something, take an extra few seconds to become aware and react from a more aware space. Tip 2 is take control of your reactions, take a few topics today and react in an opposite way than usual. This will not only shock those expecting the same-ol response but this builds your decision-making muscle and breaks the cycle of unconscious autopilot thoughts over time.
- Focus on the action at hand - Although it can be a need, multi-tasking hinders metal health and drains us. Science tells us the mind can't do two things at once, its best attempts are only a swift switching back and forth. To help build strong mental health multitask less. The while taking on 1 activity, focus on the why-of-the-action during the time you are taking action. This is a powerful spiritual principle that no matter what you believe you can test and see results in your life. Its true, we can do the right things in the wrong way, which leads to more frustration because of the lack of results. If you are feeling out a resume you should be thinking about the purpose to get an interview on the end result of a job. This mental alignment adds energy to the task and pulls us toward our goals.
In closing, remember no matter what we do with low energy it has a great chance of failure. By low energy, I don't mean tired I mean distracted or overly emotional in a negative way.
When we take on actions with focus and high energy alignment, our success is much more likely.
To being the hero of your story-

Incredible advice Jason. You make such a difference for everyone in this community

I absolutely love the advice

Thank you for this very helpful topic!!! I am already doing some of these, but it's a good reminder to read about it too. As our minds can become our enemies if we let our thoughts take over.

These are great suggestions! The space between experience and reaction is the most critical fraction of a second we have. Emotions are real, but how we react to them is entirely ours to control!

Jason Roberson Great advice here! I couldn't agree more with some of the mindfulness exercises you mention above. Deep breathing, mental alignment and focusing on the action at hand are applicable for ANY profession or interview. Very Zen :)

Good stuff Jason!

I love this focus on mental health -- a topic that is so often over-looked or dismissed or swept under the rug like it's something to hide. We all have minds and emotions and we need to care for them as we would any other part of ourselves. Thanks for the post Jason Roberson !

These are absolutely great tips!
Thanks, Jason. I truly appreciate the advice and tips. We need people like you around!!!
