Share Your Working Story...
In 2016, the Working In America initiative launched to collect stories from workers across the country to tell us about the challenges and joys of what they do and how they do it.
Join working people across our country who have shared their work experiences by submitting your story at https://working.org/working-stories/
Below are examples of working stories shared by participants—can you relate? What is something about your job that people don't know? What inspires you to keep working?

Alison 3rd Grade English & Language Arts Teacher New Orleans, LA
What is one thing about your work that most people don't know?
People don't know that I just want to teach and be appreciated for just teaching. We are often times encouraged to move ahead in schools—becomes leaders early on—without much experience but I just want to teach. I want to be the best teacher that I can be for them.
What makes you most proud of the work you do?
Work to me is about learning. I teach, but I learn and process information at the same time. My scholars are constantly changing my beliefs of what is possible. Their intuition, their creativity, and their spirit encourage me to be better than the day before. I always want to be better for them.

The best time...
This is my favorite Chinese Proverb and oh-so-appropriate to post as we start this new year. We all are going to live longer and work longer than we ever expected. We all need to develop new skills, or find difference jobs or companies to maximize our own success. Looking backwards with regret on lack of preparation or action is not healthy. Taking action and moving forward is. If you don't have a high school degree, go get that GED now. If you see computer programmers making lots of $$ - go to free online resources and start to learn to code html language to start. Wish you had that trade thats always in demand - like electriician, plumber, hair-stylist, etc. -find a reputable trade school and start now.
There is no better time than now. Don't worry about the past - your future is BRIGHT (so long as you take control of it).
Good luck, and HAPPY NEW YEAR! #Inspiration #besttime #startingover #motivation #positive #success

Re-invent yourself!
I was a state licensed sign language interpreter for many years. It was two years ago I had a fall that would change my life and the course of my future. I broke my wrist in three places, had multiple surgeries and was told...I'm sorry, you will never interpret again. I was completely broken. Beat down. Until, one day I woke up looking at the cast on my now disabled hand. I thought, I may not be able to interpret, but I can teach others to do it. At a very minimum teach others to love sign language.
I went down to our county office opened a DBA, named my business Hands of Hope, and birthed a business. I filed an EIN with federal free, and have completely changed my life but others as well.
Re-inventing my life process challenged myself to keep doing what I love to do. Being on jobcasers keeps me motivated.
What's your talent? Your special part of you that you can share with others? Entrepreneurs are a lost entity and we need to reclaim our own destined futures while waiting for opportunities to come to us, create your own opportunities.

Rejection is a bump not a wall!
I like this story. Clearly a crazy exceptional outlier. But still a cool lesson in directing emotions to motivation not defeat.

Michael Phelps and dreams
I am one of the millions of Americans who is in amazement at what Michael Phelps achieved in his career. I just read an interview of his - so cool to know that a little 9 year old had a dream and that a life of dedication, hard work, tenacity (and, ok a TON of raw talent) made it come true. Inspirational...
from the interview:..... Cannon also asked Phelps what has driven him over the years to work as hard as he has to achieve his record-shattering success.
"I hate to lose, number one," the 31-year-old icon said, smiling. "My biggest thing is, I started goal setting when I was nine years old, and I literally dreamt for the stars and dreamt for the biggest possible thing I could think of: I wanted to change the sport of swimming and I wanted to do something nobody had ever done before."

Attitude
A former boss taught me that the right attitude gets you 100% of the way there. Just add up the letters by their order in the alphabet! A(1)-T(20)-T(20)-I(9)-T(20)-U(21)-D(4)-E(5) = 100!

Champions!
