It’s Saturday Night and with so much going on in the United States what are your thoughts? During the past few weeks I have attended several meets regarding the current employment shortage businesses are facing. The last meeting I attended was more shocking than the others. Are you making the right choices? Thursday afternoon I attended a meeting with several union trade organizations and companies looking to hire. Each trade or Employers was given 15 mins to talk about what each are facing while trying to recruit people. The number one topic was a lack of people applying for work. Many of the unemployed who are collecting unemployment are choosing to stay unemployed. One of the reasons might be due to the extra money currently being offered by the Department of Unemployment. Hi Michael, quick question... are those employment meeting closed or open to the public? I'm curious because I would LOVE to have an opportunity to sit-in on these meetings and listen to this important discussion in order to get a better perspective on employer recruiting challenges and/or concerns.
Your statement "The number one topic was a lack of people applying for work" is strikingly interesting to me because it doesn't resinate an association to the job search challenges and pain points our members seem to be experiencing and expressing in this community.
These are 3 basic membership claims about employers:
- fake job posts, (posting employment openings for jobs that don't really exist)
- discriminating/bias hiring practices, (ageism, minors/teens, ex-offenders, veterans, disabled, etc.)
- broken recruiting/hiring process, (bad follow-up communication after application and interview)
The virus outbreak resulted in a catastrophic number of job loss within some of our biggest industries, (foodservice, hospitality, and small businesses just to name a few). Experienced workers in these industries probably turned to UI support services immediately after job loss because new job options within their chosen professions where simply not available but this was more of a necessary action step rather than a long term solution.
Honestly, I don't know who's right, employers or job seekers, but there's clearly a serious level mis-communication happening within the workforce and employment community.

Every time I going to apply online, it takes me To another portal with a bunch of advertising Most of the time I cannot even apply for the job that I was looking , and if not to make you login into many other different job websites I only received a 600 dollars from the government in 10 weeks so You get paid by the goberment to said that?
