Older worker? Become "age-neutral" in your thinking!
If you are an unemployed older adult, it's easy to assume ageism or age discrimination when you're turned down for jobs time after time. Yes age discrimination does exist but it is not the barrier EVERY time. Don't let a presumption of "they'll think I'm too old" hold you back. And don't let it cloud your thinking and your analysis of what you can improve in order to become a more desirable candidate. https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/should-age-neutral-thing-jessica-goldberg #ageism #agediscrimination #olderworkers #jobsearch

This is not a fact because this happened to me in the past year and he told me because I wasn’t in high school that he wasn’t hiring anyone that wasn’t in high school, I’m 48. That means I’m not in high school, I’m still unemployed. It’s not easy to get a job here in Calif, I don’t know where your from but people whom are older and only getting certain types of job positions due to their age and ability and well there isn’t enough of those jobs. I have

Que bien trabajan en la compañla

Great Inspiration!! Thanks!!

Helen b, I am 58 years old, I have experience, I have worked at many types of jobs, gotten along with many types of personalities. You ignore my experience and knowledge at your own peril. When you are swearing at these "young whippersnappers" who expect everything while willing do to nothing to earn it, and spend half the day on their phone, taking selfies, I hope you think of how you treated the more "mature" applicants. I will not change myself for anyone. Take me as I am, or leave me. And I just got a job offer, so there!

For whatever reason there comes a time in your life that you may find yourself without a job due to being fired or laid off. As an older adult just hearing/reading about other people experiences it is downright scary. I found myself unemployed for about seven months and I want to tell you it felt like forever. I was actively job searching, had several phone interviews, went on some interviews, got ghosted by potential employers and eventually was hired. It is challenging to stay positive but you must. I know you need a job but if you allow desperation to take over, your job search experience is going to be a nightmare. Same way employers spell confidence they also smell desperation and fears. Some of us have to do a reality check. Look at yourself in the mirror. How do you look? Experience is great but if I am interviewing you I am more focused on what you have you done lately or what are you going to be able to do for me now? Are your clothes too tight? Can you stand to lose a few pounds? Upgrade your look, cover them grays or at the very least wear a hairstyle that is more modern. The world is superficial, cant change the world but if you want to find a job you have to make some adjustments. Its not just about having experience, you are a package and presentation matters. Presentation includes everything. Think about it when you go to the store and you see the beat up milk carton, most of us wont give that milk carton a second look, we are looking for the milk carton that looks perfect not bent, well employers are looking at you in the same fashion.

What a kind thing to say and I think a lot depends on the person's disposition confidence and assurance of self worth When you know you do good work and are an asset others know it too and whether or not it is acknowledged it is essential and perfectly okay to become your own BFF

I think once you get it into your head that you can't do something and that others will treat you differently that is exactly how it will be Lois Martin . It's important to know that young or old your experience and skills are valuable, as are you!
I hate when people use race as an excuse it complete b.s. the black card just sounds completely stupid and ignorant. I ve seen plenty of successful black people who worked hard to get to ehere there at and i ve met plenty of back people from poor background and neighborhoods be successful. Everyone has the same opportunity to get somewhere in life maybe some are more privileged and come from wealthier families but everyone to be actually successful and respected has to work hard and put in effort. Im white and have a hard time sometimes im a felon which is even harder. But im going back to school and doin what i gotta do and blame no one for the challenge becoming successful just feels that much sweeter. So cut the im a black woman crap sounds completely stupid amd lazy. And frankly gives your people a bad name actually the n word i believe is used still to stereo type not just lazy black people but all ignorant and lazy people. So nice try no one feels sympathy for you its pathetic.
