Social work jobs

I am a bachelors level licensed social worker. I watch my grandson's a few days a week so I am only looking for part-time work. And I haven't worked in my field for 10 years. I've put in for quite a few jobs now and only gotten a call for one interview. That interview made me realize I am not up on the latest information in my field (mental health). The person who interviewed me told me maybe I should put on for some on call jobs within the same agency. I did so several weeks ago and have not received a call for an interview. I am 46 years old and I'm now r wondering maybe it also has to do with my age. However, I am wondering if there are any inexpensive ways for me to get up-to-date experience in my field. I can't afford conferences at this point. Any ideas on a place I could volunteer to get experience or any other ideas for me to get more recent experience? Any help would be appreciated.

I called a woman who revenged fired me out and she went crying to her pastor!

In May, 2015, I got the best job I have ever had in my life. I had been retired since 2009 from a place where I endured 5 years of workplace bullying. I was 50 and so happy to have this fantastic new opportunity. It was a church secretary position, 3 miles from my house, part time, 4 days a week. I worked my tail off just as I had promised I would if I got the job. If I felt like something wasn't good enough, I did it over. I did not get enough training for the job (2-3 weeks). In October, 2015, this woman who had a beef with my husband became my supervisor. She began setting me up to fire me. I can see that in hindsight now. She waited until January, 2016, to blindside me by terminating me. I never got a reason why. I also never received an employee handbook so if I was doing something wrong, how was I to know? I never thought to ask for one. It had been years since I had worked and it just never crossed my mind. This "Christian woman" destroyed my life! One day, I wrote her a letter and told her that I knew why she fired me (to get revenge against my husband) and a few other things. It felt good to get it off my chest. Guess what I got in return? A LETTER FROM THE PASTOR OF THE CHURCH WHO HAS KNOWN THIS WOMAN ALL OF A YEAR (I have known her for over 20 years!)! I did not bother to even read the letter! So this woman can't even handle her own dirty work?! She has to go to her pastor to do it for her when he doesn't even know the whole story?! Does anyone besides me think this woman is NUTS?!

Recent widow

My husband of 43 years passed in June. I haven't worked for a year because he needed home care. I'm looking for a job and have a few prospects. My problem is Social Security stopped his payments right after his death, and now I have to wait until 8/15 for an interview to determine how much I can receive. Anyone else run into this situation? I'm worried about keeping my utilities on.

A stressful situation I had at #Ambassador was when

All situations are stressful, no matter how you wish to look at it. DV is not something many of us wish to speak upon, nor is it someone is proud of. But one incident comes to mind....this situation involved human trafficking. For those that aren't knowledgeable, human trafficking has now become the number 1 form of prostitution today, and many young women are being taken to different parts of the country to sell themselves at the hands of an aggressor. My husband worked as security for a hotel, and I happened to have stopped by to see if he needed anything, and as he and I were standing in the lobby talking, a gentlemen, I will say this gentlemen was in his late 50's early 60's and he came to get a room at a time I found to be strange, but hey whose to say he could have just need to stop to get rest, but then again, why this hotel, in this area, and your white in an all black community? And did I mention his attire also swung me to the left, but I continued to talk with my husband but kept an eye on this man, he just didn't fit. Something in me made me uncomfortable so I asked my husband to step outside, and that's when I noticed the next thing that appeared odd, a young lady in the front seat totally incoherent, that pulled my antennas and I said to my husband something isn't right with this man and this young lady, my husband on the other hand thought I was feeding into it to much, but these are the things I was trained to pay attention too. What really made me realize this man was about to rape this woman was when I saw he carry the young lady to the room he had just purchased, now I knew what I was seeing was accurate, and I did what I am designed to do. Long story short the young lady had been drugged, the ambulance had given her some form of shot to reverse he affects of the drugs she was on and I rode to the hospital with her, performed as I was taught, and we had the man arrested and placed in jail. Just one of many stories I can tell, and this is why I do what I do for FREE...the passion is within me, and I thank God daily for the choice I made when I was being abused. No one deserves to be talked o any type of way, no one has the right to put a hand on you, and no one controls you but you.

How volunteering at #DomesticViolenceSpeakersBureau changed me

I have changed in so many ways. I first learned that I am not alone that there are women that are lawyers, judges, doctors, teachers, counselors you name it that have been in some form of DV situation, and to see these women made me feel that I should have sought help, but was afraid to. vlounteering has helped me to share my story, but to help other women feel that they aren't by themselves, there's a ton of help if one is ready to move on, and its also changed how I look at me today. Just because I have a record that reflects that I am violent, by no forms of the word am I a violent person, but according to the law, I AM, and that title is NOT WHO I AM, nor is it who I was designed to be. I have an entirely different perspective as to how I look at my past, how my past has helped someone to NOT make the same choices I did, but got the the help needed so they wouldn't end up as I have. The change has been for the better, and I will not change one thing about my experience....NOT ONE!!!!!
