Unlocking Public Sector Careers: A State Government Application Guide

Public sector careers can offer something many workers are looking for right now: stability, strong benefits, meaningful work, and opportunities for long-term growth.

But applying for government jobs can feel like learning a completely different language. From civil service terminology to structured applications and lengthy hiring timelines, the process is often very different from the private sector.

That’s why Opportunity@Work and SkillUp created Unlocking Public Sector Careers: A State Government Application Guide for STARs; a practical roadmap designed to help STARs navigate the public sector hiring process with confidence.

The guide includes:

• How public sector hiring works • Common government hiring terms explained • Resume and application tips for STARs • Interview guidance using the STAR method • Where to find public sector jobs • Insights from public sector leaders and STARs already working in government roles

If you’re a STAR interested in public service, this resource can help you better understand the process and better position your skills and experience for government opportunities.

Explore the guide here: https://skillup.org/public-sector#applicant-guide

Career Training is Awesome but don’t you think government needs more focus on creating jobs for career training graduates?

There’s so much talk about the challenges graduates are having finding career related jobs after graduation that makes question why more government investment in career training. http://blog.mass.gov/governor/workforce-skills/governor-baker-announces-9-3-million-towards-voctech-training-equipment/

Hi Stephen, I think you should be fine by just making sure you include the experience you already have that is relative to the job you're applying for.
