Criminal background check is killing me
I was convicted of assault on a family member back in 2016 and have lost out on numerous jobs i excelled in because im longer eligible for rehire because of a violent offense. Head of HR in numerous companies told me they will hire felons with drug convictions before they hire me with a misdemeanor assault. I live in VA. Anyone knows of any jobs willing to hire me based on qualifications rather than record? Ihave over 20 years customer service and retail experience. Im even willing to work fast food but keep getting denied because they say im overqualified. Straight nonsense.

You are overqualified
Have you ever been told you were overqualified and as a result weren't hired?
The reason could be that the employer feared that you would accept the offer and then leave soon after if you felt the job was beneath you or you became bored. Don't worry there are ways to convince employers that your experience is a bonus and that you want the job!
Let’s look at some tips on what to do when you're overqualified:
-Don’t oversell yourself Instead of focusing on highlighting all of your accomplishments on your resume if you’re overqualified, focus specifically on roles and responsibilities that align with the potential position. Be specific and straightforward! The goal is to make yourself appear in line for that position.
-Address salary concerns When you’re overqualified you will likely receive a salary reduction and it’s important to convey to the employer that you’re willing to take one. So, be sure to address the elephant in the room! In your cover letter make it clear that the role is an acceptable range for you. If you were a manager for example and you are now looking for an individual contributor role, make it clear you're not expecting a similar salary because you know this role has less responsibility.
-Be ready to explain why During an interview expect questions about why you want the job given your advanced experience and skills. This is likely the first question the employer will ask, so having a great answer prepared is very important. First, acknowledge that you know you're overqualified and next, provide reasons why it benefits the company to hire you. This could be that you plan to use your wide range of experience to mentor team members or assist when coworkers are out sick or on vacation.
-Utilize your experience Make sure to research the company before applying. Show them that you understand their problems and outline what your experience can bring to the organization. You're at an advantage because employers know that hiring someone with more experience means the learning curve for training/onboarding will be shorter and that someone with more experience at a lower price can greatly benefit them.
-Have a good attitude Don’t necessarily put on the breaks and think it can’t or won’t happen. Instead of seeing yourself as overqualified, view yourself as highly qualified with something extra to offer the company! Make sure NOT to treat this as a guarantee that the job is yours based on your experience. Even though you have all that great experience it doesn’t necessarily mean you will land the job on that alone. You will still need to convince the company what you can do for them!
Good luck : )

Over qualified and in debt
I am a former soldier of 26 years and a veteran teacher of 24 years. I have two MAED's an MBS, a BS in business, an associate degree in Paralegal studies and I am a certified tax associate. In addition, I have a teaching license with an administrative endorsement from the state of Nevada. Prior to my recent divorce I even obtained a CDL and drove a tractor trailer for a year. Lastly, my doctoral degree will be issued to me as soon as I finish dissertation and pay off my last semester's tuition. With all of the education that I have, you would think that I could get a job that does not include baby siting someone else's children or driving a truck. Between 1980 and 1982 I was an instructor at the United States Military Academy at West Point New York and between 1988 and 1992 I instructed Military Science at the University of California at Berkeley. Because I spent so much time pursuing higher education, I became very familiar with computers and other electronics therefore, I really would like to obtain a position wherein I can use my knowledge and extensive experience to make addition money to pay off my student loans and improve my life during my declining years. I admit that I am 71 years old but I am totally physically fit and my mental capacity is beyond reproach. Can someone please help me?

Overwhelmed

Over qualified for FedEx Job?
Last month I applied for a P&D Managers position with FedEx Ground. Today i received a email stating I was not going to be considered for the position. I have over 12 years of expierance and have ran a successful UPS Freight facility. No one can give me a reason why I was overlooked. Could I be over qualified? It took nearly a month for a response and local facility says HR is responsible for the hiring process. I don’t have a number to reach them. I was positive I would of been considered at least for an interview.

Overqualified?
Should lying about one's experience in order to avoid being overqualified, be a carrier move?

Returning to job market as a senior
Any advice how to return to the healthcare market in a lesser position? Retired in 2010 but need to work now. Get you’re overqualified a lot.

discouraged
its seems i'm over qualiied for jobs they are giving to 18yr olds who dont want to do the work or stay for a short period of time and leave. No experience is better tha a perfect attendance record for 31 rs at the same job and then your job is gone because of company closure. need full time for benefits and i now am in the minority-single white female and age.

Years of experience but no degree
I was at a company for 19 years. I was promoted many times within this organization. I was laid off after 19 years of service. Although I have lots of knowledge in the health insurance industry. Due to me not having a degree I am having trouble finding work. These days you have to have that piece of paper to be relevant. I will be starting back to school next month but I still need a job in the meantime. But I’m also over qualified for the simple customer service jobs that would hold me over until I finish school. Does anyone have any advise?
