Too old! What????
Hi...Im in a deal quandry. I'm 61 yrs young and moved to NC 3 yrs ago to work with the military families. 4 months after arriving, I had an emergency leg amputation. Obviously it took a lot to heal, recover, learn to use my prosthetic leg and get on with life. Well, I've been trying to get hirex since 2018. I know it's the age thing as all the applications ask for yr of HS graduation..omg. They don't even know about my leg. 57 apps later I was called for 4 interviews. 3 didn't hire due to hrs I can't work..I care solely for my disabled teen and can only work while she's in school. The one job with flexible hrs saw my leg and that was a no call back. The teaching jobs all told me I had too much experience and education..what?? I was told to dummy down my resume..I worked hard at my jobs and career in the mental health field and 8 yrs of college but no Masters degree which I need in my field. No employment for 3 yrs so I'm tapped out..all loans are used up, savings, everything gone but Soc Sec and that's a joke... I am completely fed up and tired of trying. My specialty is case manager, counselor or instructor for developmentally delayed plus I was a nurse for 35 yrs. Any job with this type. Of client is over an hour away and local jobs are scarce and military gets first dibs...this is a military town with a Marine base in most of the county. I'm sick as hell over this as I've never had a problem getting a job or paying my bills when I work. At 61 I shouldn't be at such a loss but I am and I worry about my teen who needs me to support and care for her. I truly feel like giving up and I never felt this way about work Ever.
Questions & Concerns.
Does anyone know about a company called “ALC Call Center” here in Raleigh NC well enough to give me information about the hiring process? I recently went there for a interview this past Friday and was offered the position on the spot (which I am proud and happy about because I been having the worst luck), well the next process would be the drug test and background check which I will pass with flying colors for the drug test, the background check is what I am worried about the most even though I ONLY have misdemeanors on my background. So my question is do anybody know exactly what they look at or are they lenient when it comes to that? I need help, Im super nervous :’(

Would love somreactions to this. In Healthcare Revenue Cycle for 30 yrs. Laid off 2/15 of 2019 out of work since then. When I left NY 5 yrs ago I was making $21.45 an hr. With that large health system over 10 yrs. Had a job w a health system here in NC for 2 and a half yrs. Was laid off took another job I utterly hated for $17.50 an hr stayed 14 months left that job for what I thought was a better oppotunity $18 an hr the staffing company lied the company I was contracted with lied saying no mass layoffs 8 months later we were laid off. Now I am working for a company that gives no benefits till 90 days no PTO till 180 days. If your caught w a cell phone immediate firing. Not allowed any pens and paper at your desk. No drawers at the desk and they provide no ammenities for thier employees not even a paper cup for water. Cant eat anything at your desk. You dont even get paid for federal holidays until 180 days in. A stinking half hr lunch. All these wonderful benefits for $11.00 an hour WTF.

private organization will not pay me!
I worked with a 501(c) non profit organization and was terminated for not being where I was supposed to be. This is really impossible because I transported clients and had to be in the shelter as well (impossible, you can not be at two different places at one time). I was fine with the termination, I was exhausted but they did not know this, plus I already had another job, I had not given my two weeks notice as of that particular day I was terminated. According to the NC Board of Labor, I was supposed to be paid within 24 hours of my termination. This was not done, I got paid on the next week same as everyone else. I was not paid the correct amount and now they are calling me a disgruntled ex-employee, after I showed them how much and where I was shorted my time. I reported this to the NC Labor board and was told this could take up to 3 months. I was wondering if there was some other way I could get my money owed to me that was quicker.
