I did something great at #NEWYORKCITYTECHNICALCOLLEGE/CUNY when...

Against a number of challenges, maintained Deans List status after one ridiculously horrible semester and transferred to NYU.

Drama at #TrinityAcademy

The Development Director tricked his way into a 'scheduling meeting' and accused me of things I did not do in front of the principal.

My advice to people interested in working at #TrinityAcademy as a #MusicDirector ...

The pay is terrible at less than minimum wage. I was working 38 hours/week and making $20,000/year. If you are new and starting out as an unlicensed teacher (but they discriminate against hiring teachers with teaching degrees) or you are having a career change it might be a somewhat friendly environment to cut your teeth adn get some classroom experience under your belt. It is not an accurate reflection of most private schools and certainly will not prepare you well for classroom management in public schools. The headmaster is understanding and accommodating about having a second job or emergency obligations outside of work adn they are quick to reimburse though budgets in the arts were very low when names. Students are very easy going and behavior problems are minimum.

The biggest mistake I made as a #MusicDirector at #TrinityAcademy ...

Trusting the intentions and promises of the headmaster was my biggest mistake. I should have pushed more for fair treatment or left earlier.

My last full day of parent evaluation conferences when the Development Director adn principal, under the pretense of talking about schedules, did an informal and sudden performance review wherein I was accused of hostile emails, swearing and insulting the principal to students non of which was true (I did say 'pretty damn good' once to the admissions person in an email. I then, as they knew, had to do 9 hours of parent conferences. I quit the next day.

What I loved working at #TrinityAcademy

Trinity was a great environment with a worthwhile message if you valued intellectual goals. The truth on the ground was that it was not the package that was promised. Sports and have taken over and the arts have been greatly decreased with the new Development Director who is concerned more with seminars on friendship and still struggle with accreditation. Large teacher AND student turn over as they go through identity crisis and growing pains. The teachers ARE dedicated and class sizes are small. The reading list and curriculums are very good in many subjects and it is, in general, an emotionally safe environment with home-schooled and fairly sheltered students. Still the best deal in town and lots of bang for your buck if you are not too picky about lack of resources and space.
