I put in for a promotion at work, and was told I wasn't being promoted at this time because they were looking for a (quote) certain "type"... I then replied I didn't remember reading that specific qualification in the job description... needless to say I'm job hunting now

I have been a very hard worker for the company that I work at. I do a lot of cleaning laundry and taking care of residents at work from 5:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. I have been very loyal to the company for 10 years. Just looking for a new outlook that's something a little more exciting. Thank you for your time from Cecily Couture

How I changed the moral of a company by giving it a little simple perk up.

Well, I started working for this cleaning company while I was going to school a couple of years ago. I was told to just clean the restroom and the lunchroom so I did this but I wasn't pleased with it, because the lunchroom floor was not clean , but I was told not to worry it was going to just get right back dirty again. Me and my ways would not let this be. So one day I said I don't care that it will get back dirty again so I mopped it and cleaned it good. They was amazed, it glowed. So the next day I did it again. Then one day I went in and they fixed it up by hanging things around. Then they started having parties in it. The vibe was different. And then l the employees took pride in their store. Customers came in and liked the change. What a little initiative did.

Passed Over for advancement.

I was passed over for a promotion in favor of a person with less education and absolutely no department experience. I hold a BA in business management. Ive been managing the department since being hired 2 1/2 years ago. Lastly, I served 24 years in the Army before retiring 10 years. I was a supervisor at my 2 previous employers as well. The leadership, operations, and strategic planning are definitely there. Yet, I was passed over for an employee who holds a high school diploma, supervised a smaller department and been with the company I believe 7 years and that position was their first supervisory role, yet that makes them more qualified to now be my boss, implement changes, and more the department forward? In fact, the other 2 shift supervisors were passed over and like myself, we each has the experience and education for the position. Motivation to work hard and stay employed there is gone and my leadership knows this. I am happy for the new department manager, because she didn't select herself, but to the leadership that selected her, good luck!

I have been in an industry that I did not like for 15 years; I would like to love my work. Money is not everything.

The key to success will always be in the love with which we execute it, and adding discipline, effective communication and good organization.

Too experienced?

I have, for the first time, continually been told I was "too experienced" for positions where I met all of the qualifications and was very interested. No matter how well I may do in the few Interviews I receive, the strength of my references, testimonial letters, resume or how relevant the portfolio exemplifying my experience may be, this is an ongoing challenge. As a woman over 40, I have been reading this is very common. Even if HR asks me about salary or 'title' allocated to the role, and I assure them that I am fine taking less than I have previously earned and am not concerned with 'titles' only the role and company itself, I am left back where I started, nowhere. Some people have told me that, despite my willingness to take a pay cut, some companies are required to pay a certain salary that aligns with the level of the person they hire, making my age and experience a financial liability. If that is the case, that limits the range of positions I could even hope of procuring. I am unsure how to diminish my experience, go back in time on my age or undo being a woman or what else I can proactively do to allay any of these obstacles and procure roles I am more than capable of performing. Has anyone else faced this and, if so, can they offer any advice as to what my options may be? I have hired multiple Job and Life 'Coaches', had experts redo my LinkedIn, Resume, Cover Letter and assist in making my Portfolio look beautiful, yet even these actions have had no impact in my ability to change the inevitable outcome. Thank you for any suggestions! #jobsearch #advice #women #careerchange

Table touches and customer service. Try you absolute best to say hi to ever single customer and help the team serve every customer the best way possible. It isn't scheduling or cash drawers.
