Is age discrimination still a problem?
I just saw someone ask this question in the comments section of one of our posts and want to know what YOU think. Have you encountered age discrimination recently? What did it sound/look like when it happened to you?

Age discrimination comes in the form of being overqualified
I'm 78 years old with a dynamic sales and sales management resume,. I've been job hunting for a year, to keep busy. I can pass for mid 50s.
I'm online daily sending resumes. The only response I get is from insurance companies. I refuse to sell insurance. I can't even get a response from a jiffy store when they see my age.

Ageism is real,as light as daylight. Irrespective of how experienced or how willing you are to take all kinds of low job positions, nobody is willing to give you a chance. Why advertise lies inform of job vacancies when there are no vacancies for people of certain age or academic qualifications?
It could not have been more blatantly obvious. I was doing really well when talking to the recruiter for a VERY LARGE COMPANY based in Seattle. Sounded almost like a done deal, was definitely overqualified (like that's a bad thing these days) and then the recruiter called me back a couple hours later and said "I forgot to ask for your date of birth, they will want to know that too." Then I got the crickets until the next day after I left a couple messages, and then the "overqualified" excuse. I will never get why employers don't want "overqualified" employees working for them, seems like a no brainer when they don't want to have to take the time to train, like most, or when a next level job opens up.
It is hard to know.
SInce we have been locked down, I have not applied much. I am expecting lots of age discrimination. I think that begins with most companies at 40.
I was a chemical dependency counselor and the youngest employee by 20 years. One of the last counselors that was still being trained would constantly call me a child. She and the other ladies I worked with would all talk down to me and treat me as if I was a kid even though I'm 31. It got so bad I ended up leaving the company.
They haven’t asked my age or birthdate. However, everyone has asked what year I graduated high school. A recruiter will say you sound like a perfect fit but I’m always denied the position. I feel there could be age discrimination,
Hi I dont know but, I think your right about the discrimination part because, I've applied to this company several times and, I know I'm qualified for a material handler position all day long and no matter how many time's I applied they wouldnt hire me. Strange right?
