I looked at a resume today for an accountant with 20 years of experience. There were typos and formatting errors all over the place. What do you think that tells me about her attention to detail (a critical skill in accounting)?

No attention to detail and not fit for the position. Accounting has to be precise to the penny. I was employed for a title, escrow and finance companies for years. The statements have to balance. We’re audited there no room for errors. Definitely not accountants material. It’s like the bank saying well he needs to put food on the table they messed up sorry. Others are a perfect fit, great accountants and others have another calling. As a manager HR department I want the perfect fit and my bank account or investors shareholders money to be accurate to the penny. I would say the aforementioned resume has another calling.

Some people for what ever reason can't afford a perfectly formatted resume with NO errors. They just need a job to pay their expenses and keep a roof over their head. Their are charitable agencies that prepare resumes format, spellcheck and print copies for applicants free of cost. You should find out those companies for applicant before you pass judgement.
