Have you ever worked for YOUR dad or a family member before? How was it??? I used to work for my dad when I was a kid...best, time, EVER even when he was hard on me ; )

My dad made me work for him starting age 7, he didn’t pay me anything, til years later when I was old enough to know better. Then I’d put in 12 hour days and he’d hand me a ten dollar bill!! This unfair treatment by my father has had a positive outcome believe it or not I have started my own business or two as an adult and hired everyone of my sons at one time or another when they were young to work for my business but I did everything legitimately I hired them as employees I file proper paperwork with the state and federal authorities and took out payroll taxes and gave them W-2s at the end of the year so they could properly file their tax returns. Because of the improper treatment I endured as a child I learned and decided that I would do everything legitimately when I was an adult and had the chance to because I wanted my sons to know the right way to do things when they become adults

Sorry I’ve just now checked messages, yes I did as an adult. It wasn’t too bad, but I was pregnant lol. He had to go easy on me

I think working with family can be tough sometimes, but also very rewarding.

I worked for my uncle at his car dealership and he was like a dad to me. I lost my own dad when I was 7. I enjoyed my time working there with him.

DON'T DO IT! You run an ENORMOUS RISK, of being taken advantage of, and very likely Not Being Paid!

worked with my mom and my daughtet

No my dad worked for me before biulding houses

No, never ...my dad was a history professor at the local University. I can't imagine what it would have been like to work for him...as I would have had to be in the field and a history student. So I think you have to have an interest in what your dad does and he has to have an interest in mentoring you in his field. I can't imagine it would last very long if neither of you are passionate about what he does for a living.

Grew up on a farm, so yes, of course I worked for Dad. I was the only boy of four kids!! Glad Dad later sold it and we moved to town. But, then I spent summer at Grandpa's doing farm chores again. Sure was glad when I went off to college!! Of course looking back now at 76yo, it was the best times of my life!!!!
I worked with my dad fixing cars anytime I needed extra cash, he was always there to help me out.
