What do you do after many years of orthopedic surgical sales???
What on earth does a middle aged man do to change his career after he has 15 monetarily successful years, but 15 horribly burnt out years of 24 hour a day, on trauma call, weekends, holidays, no social events, etc., who had not time to form a life of his own because of intense long hours in the operating room that takes a ton of skill, but feels that theirs no transferable skills? What do hiring managers think when they look at a resume that says I’ve taught surgeons how to perform surgical procedures for most of his life, helping them learn how to do more procedures, giving them more confidence to take on different patients, but leaving me in the dust? #surgicasales #careerchange #jobsearch #advice

Hi, Sarah! Your comment to Daniel about finding something he enjoys doing is so on key! He has so many transferrable skills! I fully believe he'll find work that's a "fit" with his personal and professional interests! I think YOU do, too!

@Daniel Viviano there are a few directions that you can take for a career change the choice is yours. Have you considered using what you have learned and teaching others? Do you have any hobbies, the reason why I ask that question perhaps you can create items with that hobby to sell, write a blog to talk about that hobby or you could even start talking on YouTube about your hobby. There are many people that like to listen to YouTube as they actually learn from others especially when they are seeking information and if you can gain interest, you can keep a follower that will continue coming back to listen to more recordings.

I know I know.... what is a medical sales rep! I fully understand. I also was a rep.. orthopedic. That followed 5 years on the other side of the table as a scrub tech. I get 100 % what you are saying and I wish there was a simple answer for this, but there isn't. Just enjoy life as it slows down and try to find something you really enjoy doing! Best of luck

Sounds like you have what it takes to be a great supervisor/teacher

You have reached a milestone in your life !!! Such as I have !!! Burnt-out on helping the rich get richer !!! But in my conclusion on life it's time to help the poor and the needy !!! So my path forward is salvation army !!!

Sound like very rare and valuable skills to me. Could you repackage yourself as a consultant?

It's really difficult since you do not say what you WOULD like to do instead. What is your passion?

Hi everyone!
I am French-speaking and I have just arrived in this country legally but I speak a little English..., I am looking for a job that could match my profile and I remind you that I was an assistant manager from where I come from. I will be happy with your advice.
Thank you in advance!!

God has blessed you helping so many! The best of luck with your new in devour. Hope you can finally live your life and not have to work! Merry Christmas
Hello, Daniel! I know that (dedicated) "helping professionals" (which you must have been!) are over-represented in your situation! I've been leading groups for health professionals whose situations have led them to be sanctioned by their boards. I've had a small (still a passion for me) counseling practice since 1985, the professional groups' since that time, also. I'm also an R.N., so I can relate to the setting you're in. I'd be AMAZED if MANY established companies were'nt very happy to hire you in a consulting role. You have so very many transferrable skills... If I'm off base, let me know!
