How to move on from a toxic workplace?

After an interview for a Kroger Starbuck that went very well (guaranteed job), I am struggling with anxiety and trust issues from my last job (AAFES Starbucks) and its toxic environment that seems to have affected me emotionally and physically. How do you feel comfortable working with people after being in an extremely toxic workplace and untrustworthy coworkers? #interview #newjob #toxicworkplace

Hi @Rachel Heineman, you're taking actions to move closer to the right direction you'd like to move forward. It might be helpful to create a mental list to consider those emotional triggers that raise red flags to you to protect yourself. What bothered you from that previous toxic environment? You're strong and those are your self defense mechanism to detect and filter any unhealthy tension. Remember self care and put yourself first! You're definitely capable to move on and build a safer and thriving experience in your future jobs. Keep at it and be brave!

You just have to work hard and keep going. You'll be appreciated for your efforts somewhere and I don't think it would hurt to let a coworker you trust know. Toxic work environments do ruin our perception of work sometimes but once you find a good place free from that, it'll be like having a work family. I'm so sorry that happened to you. I've had one toxic work environment in the past and it's so manipulative and scary.

well there toxic jobs out there. you have to not go in a new job with past feeling of abuse. you could see a therapist to give you pointers, friends, family around you also help to build confidence again. self esteem really dose get affected with lock down and covid there is a feeling of isolation that still carries on after the gates are open.

Take it day by day. Do your part and for the last job that was Toxic if you want to make a Big Red Flag for the toxic company... Then speak with the former employers and put it in writing as well as Face to face just to Conquer those demons or get over the Anxiety. They need to know. Trust me companies are cleaning house and getting rid of Bad Apples. Best wishes on your new job.

First of all, if you feel your workplace was toxic, you may wish to file a complaint, as your position was under a Federal contract through AAFES.

I would approach my new workplace with a new attitude of a fresh start. Learn names, learn who is responsible for what, know who your boss is, and what their priorities are. Work diligently and trust your supervisor, unless it is something clearly wrong. Avoid workplace gossiping and backbiters.
