Project Managers / PMP Study Group

Project and Program Expert, Needing the PMP Certificate!
Hello. I am joining this group to share what I know, providing any expertise and insights I have. I have recently taken a PMP Prep course, however, taught with the pre-March 2018 materials. I am anxious to discover the key differences or gaps that may appear on the new test? Thank you- please feel free to ask any questions and check out my LinkedIn Profile (www.linkedin.com/in/scottfaulkner1). I recently relocated to the Greater Denver Colorado area in case anyone wants to meet up in person-definitely good with that.

Comments on the PMBOK 6th edition?
Hi. As most of you probably already know, the Project Management Book of Knowledge (PMBOK) came out at the end of last year, and the PMP exam switched to match in March 2018. There were 3 new processes defined and miscellaneous other changes. What do you think of the changes?
For instance, I like the change of the label for the process group of Time Management to Schedule Management. The label Schedule Management is better aligned with the work and the subordinate processes that have names referring to "activities" and "schedule" rather than time. (On the other hand, I think it's perfectly acceptable to refer to these processes by the old group name of Time Management.)

Continuing Education
Keeping the PMP certification requires continuing education. What courses or self-study activities have you found useful (or not)?

The PMP Exam preparation chronicles...
Good day everyone. Well...after a period of....well complete inactivity of looking at my notes and content material for the PMP exam, I realized that it's time to restart the studying again. With just a a little over 6-7 weeks to sit for the Exam I needed to recommit myself to preparing. The content of the PMP Exam is going to change sometime in later March, so it's really time to hunker down. The content from the PMBOK 6th edition will now be used for questioning, and from what I'm understanding is going to be bit more complex in terms of the grasping of the concepts. Fingers crossed for me to get it done at the first attempt. The times they are a changing! Have a great rest of the week all.

STUDYING FOR THE PMP EXAM
Currently studying for the PMP Exam. I expect to take it at the end of the year. My education and background is in Office Management and Real Estate. I've discovered that through the various roles I've held, a large part of the methodologies and practices I used from one day to the next often mirrored that of those taught In the Project Management profession...Time Management, People Management, and the ability to Technologically saavvy and agile seemed to mesh well. The volume of the content at first seemed a little daunting but over the years, my comprehension of the Processes and Knowledge all started to flow logically. I am currently still studyIng hopeful to gain the confidence to sit for the Exam. and Pass it the first time around. Several people I have spoken with have taken and failed it the first time around...(bad preparation) I would imagine. I'm dedicated, determined and motivated to get those initials behind my name!

confidence
Hi, I have worked in IT for over 20 years. I am currently a project coordinator II for a utility company (over 2 yrs). I have been studying for the CAPM test mainly because of lack of confidence and I have only managed 1 project solely. How did you guys gain the confidence to take the exam - studying for a while still scared. Also, do anyone know of any mentoring groups in Atlanta trying to relocate there but still have not succeeded in gaining employment.

Project Manager
I am a Project Manager who was recently laid off. I have a solid history of experience and accomplishments including almost 18 years at a major not-for-profit with a budget of more than $100 million per annum. Before that worked for multiple "blue chip" law firms and corporations including: Jenner & Block, Kirkland & Ellis, and Ford Motor Company (Office of the General Counsel. I am located in Chicago

Prayers Needed
I was laid off in January. Since then I decided to take the time to get some much desired certifications. By August I should have a PMP, CCBA, ITIL and SSGB to add to my CSM. I will also have taken advance courses in MS Project, Excel and MySQL.
I am praying, and asking you all to pray, that I took the right direction. I have OTJ training but lacked certifications that seemed to be required for the positions of IT Project Coordinator or IT Project Manager.
For those of you that don't know, the government has a program called WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunities Act) that have funded my training to a total cost of almost $10k. I say take a chance at retooling. I believe it can only help in my job search. I found out about WIOA when I filed for my unemployment. I have a great career coach and am thankful for this opportunity.
If you know of jobs, please share.

Practice PMP Exams
Do you have any recommendations for books or web sites with good practice PMP exams? (I'm especially interested in the advice of people who have already taken the exam.) Thanks!
