Project Managers / PMP Study Group

Hi Everyone, My name is Caryn & I live in Northern Virginia but desperately want to return to FL to be near my family. I moved up here for a great job but then ended up having 5 surgeries in one year and part of a massive lay-off & have been off work since last April. I suffer from Fibromyalgia & CRPS/RSD in both legs and my right ankle. I can barely walk or drive so I must work remotely. I have many years experience as a PM running drive test teams or field engineers working on cell towers. I do NOT want to go out on SSD, I want & need to work; there is nothing wrong with my brain, it is my legs that don't always work right. I am presently staying at a friend's as my Unemployment ran out in November. I am single with just my small dog for support & my friend needs to rent his house out very soon. I have doubled my LinkedIn connections, with primarily recruiters and reach out to them for jobs as well. I have been in Wireless Telecom for 12 years and worked remotely for approximately 9 of those years. Can anyone assist in helping me find a Remote/Telework position? I am an outstanding manager per the contractors who worked for/with me. Thank you & God Bless you all!

Is the team you manage or work with all working at the same site? Or is the staff distributed and working together virtually? If your team is virtual, do you have some suggestions about how to make them feel more cohesive? When it is hard to have a team lunch or other "get together", what do you do?

how you broke into it [project management]? What is it that interests you about it, and what makes you good at it? I've been looking for office work and I'm wondering if I have what it takes to look into it as a possible career.

What tools does your organization use to track and share the project schedules? For instance... Do you use software tools? Do you post the schedule or milestones anywhere? Does the system have reminders for people when they have a deliverable due? Who on the project team has access to change the schedule and who can view it?

What do you think is a good measure of the size of a project? The number of people on the project team? The budget? The expected revenue from the unique product, service, or result? Other measures? And a related question... what would you consider a "small", "medium", or "large" project? I see on job postings things like "must be able to manage 4-6 small projects simultaneously", but there's often no definition of what they mean by "small".

Hello, all. My name is Brian and I am New to the Group. I'm currently studying the PMBOK and hope to tackle it in the coming 3 months. I live in Florida and hope to gain a little insight into the small nuances that make Project Managers successful during the Exam and in the Career.

What is the most rewarding part of project management for you?

Does your organization have a Project/Program Management Office? What kinds of support does it provide for projects? Does it organize continuing education for project managers?
