Engineering jobs near Charlotte, NC
Hi everybody,
My wife seems to think that there's this magical 9 to 5 engineering job with great benefits, a shorter commute, virtually no travel and around a 70k salary. I have two years of experience and have been looking for about 7 months for a new position. And by 9 to 5, I really mean 9 to 5; no work after hours, no work on weekends, and not even the expectation to do so.
Can someone please confirm whether or not this dream job exists? I found some really great positions (in my opinion) but my wife feels like I need to pass on them because the terms aren't absolutely perfect.
Thanks for any insight! #Charlotte #design #engineering #jobs

I feel like it's difficult to find any job like that these days...
In the ideal world of engineering there is no such thing as a 9 - 5 job. Been there done that. In my younger days I was working for a Japanese company. I would be in office at 8:30 am or earlier, but I would have to stick around until 7 or 8 pm before I could get out. If I ever wanted to leave early (like 6 or 7 pm) I would have to ask the President for his permission. Also, as a Senior Engineer, once a month I would have to entertain customers to a Japanese or any other restaurant until midnight. No exceptions. Engineering pays much more than other professions and they want you to work 60-70 hours a week. With the advent of technology you are working all the time, even if you are not in office. I finally quit that Japanese job and went to teach at a Technical College - worked there for 19 years and then retired. It was much better for my family. The lesson is - the 9-5 engineering job is a myth, its not the reality. Hope this provides you with some insight into modern day engineering. Thanks!!!
