Never Give Up, Never Give In

This post was inspired by a Fair Chance to Succeed group member, James. He is a new member & I want to thank him for reaching out & sharing his experience with us.

It's about working harder for less, thinking things are looking up & then getting passed over even when your performance deserves recognition & the rewards you've earned are given to others instead.

This is a hard situation to be in, no doubt about it. I could give you all the cliches about staying motivated & hanging in there but they don't alleviate that feeling of injustice do they?

It's frustrating to be that person. WHAT YOU CHOOSE TO DO MOVING FORWARD is one thing you have complete control to make choices about. That is what can make or break your endeavor to be successful.

I used to refer to what I called the "Rug Syndrome" when assisting my clients to build better lives for themselves. It's what people experience when they're at the point where they think things are going in the right direction, they're feeling pretty hopeful & their feet are planted solidly & then someone or something comes along & jerks the rug out from underneath their feet. To make matters worse, it seems to happen when we least expect it. It can feel like a devastating blow after all the effort put forth.

Truth is, it happens to most everyone. The hard part is getting back up & moving forward. We have to remember that life doesn't owe us anything & some of us have to work harder than others to get our needs met. Our worst enemy is the negative self-talk we allow ourselves to indulge in when feeling defeated.

Never give up, never give in! Keep pushing. It is for your benefit after all, no-one else's. "Your time will come" was a phrase I heard frequently along my journey & I never believed it but I kept pushing myself through the frustration & rejection & I did get what I was striving for in time. Not MY time-line mind you, but eventually. "Eventually" could be tomorrow or a year from now but giving up or giving in will change "eventually" to "never".

Raised on retail, former entertainment assistant, seeking new opportunities

Every time I've found myself in this position, I feel like there's nothing that can interrupt the cycle. And every time so, far, something inspires me. Sometimes it takes a long time, and much is lost, but the scary part is not knowing where the hope will come from. I like to think about it like swinging from vines, and not knowing if the next one is going to snap. I've spent years working for established companies, feeling very confident and secure on the one hand. On the other, I've been a hectic freelancer swinging from vine to vine. Thank you for your post!

Telephone Aervice Rep at Stericycle

Biggest load of horse shit I have read. Passed over so many times I have tread marks on my head. Was literally begged by supervisors to apply but passed over consistently. Got tired of the excuses and found a company where I am appreciated.

This is so true! When one door closes another will open. Trust in yourself and know that it may be a blow to the gut but honestly they are doing you a favor, make sure your resume is on point! I been getting interviews and offers left and right. Put the ball in your court and give yourself options!

it about knowing your worth. you got to be a dummy if you work hard and settle for less. these companies are crooks and will take advantage of those who are desperate for a job and don't know what they are actually worth. as soon as i created and mastermind my resume i started to get job offers from companies left and right daily. i never had to do a interview or settle less all because my resume speak worth and value. in fact it was inspired by many companies because it contained keywords i am sure 90% of people wouldn't know.

it is about common sense. i would never work hard for less. in fact i get job offers and get pay way much above wages compare to those cheap labor jobs where you got to work harder for less. those companies benefit more when you give up your wages and giving them too much effort is always bad.
