Hi, Funny, I had a couple of friends email me this article as well. Is this a real problem or just a case of self defeating behavior. Finding a good job is stressful. The subconscious mind has a way of tricking the body with unrealistic excuses to alleviate the pain. I’m not a master job seeker. Going through some tough times myself at the moment but not getting hired because of my age.. I’m still not convinced.

Why do we allow ourselves to be continually misguided by stereotypes? Are we just inherently too lazy to allow an open mind and try to understand an accept individuals based on their own merits? Not 1 of all the bias driven negative stereotypes identified in this article holds up under scrutiny. Fear is the only winner here!!

How are older people supposed to remain self-sufficient if they’re forced out of the job market? I think this is an excellent question found in this article that needs careful consideration. Right now there’s a high number of the nation's population entering their golden years with limited retirement savings and facing a fading social security system. Where is the funding going to come to support their living when they're willing to work but unable to find jobs? This article speaks directly to what I’m experiencing as an experienced senior level job seeker trying to find employment in today’s job market. I try not to be too self conscious or preoccupied on how other’s are pre-judging me on an application or during a job interview but I can’t help feeling that some employers are turning me down because I don’t fit into their generation defining culture. I’m glad to see this topic appearing on a nationally recognized media outlet like the New York Times. Thanks for sharing.
