I prepare. I know everything about the company I can find. I also research the position I am interviewing for and the responsibilities of my position at that specific company. Found out a long time ago just because the job opening says Quality Specialist doesn't mean the same thing in each company and the responsibilities are a lot different.

Sometimes, it helps to practice for interviews by writing out or scripting your responses. Try to apply for various roles even if you are overqualified for them.

Here are the following items you should do to prepare for a face to face meeting!

  1. Drive to job site prior to interview. Understand where to park and entrance. Look to see how employees are dressed. Especially, the receptionists.

  2. Research everything about the company and read all the mission statements and understand what pain point the company solves and how they state what their benefits are. Know who the companies competitors are and how this company differentiates themselves against the competition. Research the different departments and have a basic understanding what departments you would be working with the most. Know who the executives are and what their background is ( where they worked before and how long they have been with the company)

  3. Linked in is your friend. Know who is interviewing you and look up their bio on LinkedIn.

  4. Prepare to have questions that show you’ve done research and ask educated questions based on your research of the company and the company mission.

  5. Prepare to answer behavioral type questions, which ask for examples of actual work examples and how you handled situations. Be prepared to share to answer with Return on Investments answers. Meaning how your efforts produced the most profits or saved the company the most money.

  6. They will ask you for an example of when you made a mistake or when you did not get along with a coworker. Answer honestly but the key here is how you immediately realized how you made mistakes and how you sought out leadership for help to minimize any fallout. The key here is to show how much you learned from your mistake or how you overcame a coworker that did not respect you by learning how to work with more difficult people and that in the end you ended up learning life long lessons which changed your life.

  7. When you are asked if you have questions, always have educated questions that represent the present interview and the research you did.

  8. Lastly ALWAYS CLOSE THE DEAL! I usually say, I have one last question. I ask this question!

With everything I’ve learned about this opportunity by my research and from what you told me today, I am really excited about this position and would love to start immediately! I would like to see if you have any other questions or concerns about my experience and my ability to exceed in this role. I would like to discuss any concerns or unknowns about my abilities where you would hesitate offering me this position immediately?

I can start next Monday and feel great about my ability to add a great ROI to this position and look forward to your offer and to get started so the transition will be seamless.

They might give you a concern they have where you can address this immediately where it is no longer an issue or concern.

At the end of the interview, they will let you know when they will follow up. You will respond with I understand you are extremely busy. Due to this, I will follow up with you on Wednesday at 11am to set up next steps.

Interview will end! You will go to the reception area and write a personal thank you note on the stationery you brought with you. Leave with the receptionist or on their desk in their office. Always mention something from the interview and how grateful they took the time to review the role and company to you.

Follow up when you told the interviewer you would with a phone call backed by an email .

My company calls me tenacious. I make presidents club every year. Companies could care less if you’re female or male, black or white, young or old when you are a profit producer and expense saver. Don’t discuss salary unless they do and still don’t get into discussing salary until you get an offer.

My suggestions about negotiating much bigger salaries and vacation days is a whole other list of items you should follow.

I wish you luck and good research!
