I've worked for Wal-Mart before, as far as I know the apply status doesn't change unless someone reaches out to hire you. Even then I'd be iffy to say that it actually does since I didn't keep track after I got hired and most business websites - even big company ones - are not as well maintained as they really should be.

Many Walmart's have changed to self check out. So many hours have been cut or moved around people in different departments. Many big box stores only have a certain amount of hours they can give each week/month. Sometimes when people leave they deal with one less person. Closer to the holidays they will hire more help. Just keep all your applications up to date. Try applying for different positions to get in the door. Good Luck!
