So exhausting

So I got laid off it will be a year as of the 25. I have to say I am utterly drained in every sense! Iam mentally emotionally and spiritually drained!! I just don’t know what do I actually dread this life of nothing!!!! It’s so hard to stay positive especially when ur going insane from billls and daily struggle! I think it’s ridiculous what these companies expect from us (qualification wise). Why do I need a bachelor degree to sell a mattress I’m from nyc hustle and common sense is in the blood we have to be fast learners we are so diverse and fast paced seriously tho a 4 year college degree to sell a mattress!!!!! ABSOLUTELY ABSURD!!! Especially when you go to the store and the employees are a bunch of idiots who don’t want to help and have child like attitudes!!! I’m trying to remain positive sorry about the rant I had to let it out! Anyway I do not have a hs diploma but I’m obtaining my ged thru a community college someone please help! #advice #qualifications #tired #frustrated #RetailCustomerService #retail

Sorry to hear Danielle... Hope things are getting better but wanted to add some items to help get you where you want to go.

To start getting some money in your pocket (and hopefully you have a car)... Try doing door dash, delivery dudes and/or uber eats. I know that women can feel more vulnerable and may not want a stranger in their car (why I didn't recommend Uber/Lyft) , but with these services listed you pick up food from a restaurant and deliver it. It's not a windfall of money but if you put in some solid hours you can make some decent income to get you by till the full time job kicks in, especially if you live in a highly populated area.

2nd, sign up to a staffing agency like "Robert Half". Make sure to have a "hard set minimum" that you need and don't take anything less (they will try to get you to lower what you get if you let them). Alot of times this is a great way to get your foot in the door of a company and see they see your hustle and work ethic they may offer a job. Plus you get to check them out to see if you like it.

3rd and most importantly, you need to network. Go on LinkedIn and create an account if you don't already have one. Reach out to past colleagues that you've worked with and you have a good relationship. Not to ask for a job, but just to "catch up" . The job need will come up and they will "lookout" for you on the job front. Also go to www.meetup.com and check out events near you that align with your interests. Go to those meetings and meet people. Let them know what you are looking for and sometimes strangers can be more helpful than close family.

How these suggestions help. I've been where you are at. I even have an MBA and still have very similar struggles because the jobs I do find, no one wants to pay more than $15 an hour.

Though I'm working, I do uber/lyft (to and from work which earns me gas and car payment money), still go to networking events to look for customers and opportunities, and building up my own business (cause in the end you can only rely rely on yourself). Stay hustling! :)

Right now I'm working 2 part-time jobs until I find the right job. I have a 4 degree. Don't lose yourself focusing on what others do or not doing.

Have you looked into applying for any federal jobs and or creating a resume profile on a government/federal employment website? Also, try applying for city and or state jobs under apprenticeship levels..

Those places do not pay enough to live off of. That person probably has more experience then any degree can offer.

Fast food may not need a diploma or a GED. Wal-Mart does not need a diploma or a GED. Wal-Mart offers the GED or diploma education for free.
