Find a nonprofit organization you’re interested in working for, speak with the employees, they’ll be able to direct you to whom you should seek out for a potential job. You might consider volunteering at a nonprofit prior to being hired? Also, looking into potentially working for the state or federal government as well?

@Walter Borland, try connecting with your city's Chamber of Commerce. They have their thumb on the pulse of most local businesses and should be able to offer you information about local non-profit organizations. From there, it's just a matter of networking.
